Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Aug 12, 2015 9:47 am Just had a prelim meeting with our builders. After inspecting our site and getting soil tests and contour surveys done they have said we will need a retaining wall along the back of our block at about 900 high. We have 8 metres to play with and I'm sure he said it has to be a minimum of 1.5 metres off the fence. So now we have to decide where to place it. 1.5m stepped down make a pretty useless space (between fence and retaining wall) and I think it would be better closer to the house then we can put steps down to a 'sunken' garden type arrangement. The other problem is we have young grandkids and I would be afraid they'll go flying off the edge of the retaining wall so would need to put some sort of barrier up, a row of shrubs maybe? I think theres a lot of scope to make a really unique backyard (I have visions of pretty wrought iron furniture, raised herb gardens) but having a brainfreeze right now. If someone has had a similar arrangement I would love to see photos. Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that.
