Blinds are not designed to keep the cold out, otherwise houses with blinds would have no need for any heating. Their design is moreso to prevent sunlight penetratting into the room causing it to heat up - and of course for privacy Dale - Building Newbie Proserpine, QLD Re: out door shade blinds needing feedback 5Jun 18, 2015 8:47 pm 1rocky with my alfresco area i went with aluminum shutters which has allowed me the warmth needed the safety of shutting out the storms etc. Hi 1rocky, Are these similar to the shutters they use voor patio roofing? We are just starting to look into outdoor blinds. Cheers Re: out door shade blinds needing feedback 6Jun 19, 2015 10:32 am my shutters are similar to plantation shutters and are great lets plenty of light in and even though i opted to have mine fixed they can also be sliding i can post a pic if you like Re: out door shade blinds needing feedback 7Jun 19, 2015 9:54 pm 1rocky my shutters are similar to plantation shutters and are great lets plenty of light in and even though i opted to have mine fixed they can also be sliding i can post a pic if you like Thanks for explaining, I do get the idea, but also thing it might not be for us. We probably will start with ziptrak blinds. Thanks again Re: out door shade blinds needing feedback 8Aug 20, 2015 1:59 pm clath The sales consultant assured me that I would be able to use my alfresco all year round with these blinds. Technically you can use it all year around. Your home is insulated from the weather and the cold, and i think it's safe to presume that you have a heater and your windows have blinds and curtains, both of which provide some level of further insulation / heat retension. Your outdoor blinds, what material are they? Plastic? how thin is it? do you have a heat source in that area? is that area as insulated as your house? No? well of course it will be freezing outside... Adding tracks to the blinds will help reduce heat loss in that area, IF you have a heat source and that area is completely enclosed, therefore it will no longer be "alfresco" which in spanish literally means in the fresh. I personally think pivot door are over the top, as you said a bit impractical having a small useless section and poor insulation.
