Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Mar 30, 2015 6:06 pm Hi all, I have tiles on the alfreso of my newly built home in North Queensland. Would it be worth sealing them? Someone has told me that the sealant will crack and peel and can grow mildew or mould under it. He suggested giving the tiles a gurney every so often is better than sealing. Any suggestions?? They are a grip tiles and hard to keep clean, but wont be slippery when wet. Thanks! What type of sealer is your friend talking about that will crack and peel? I would recommend a penetrating sealer. It sits below the surface so will not add nor detract from the slip resistance of the tiles. Mould and mildew will not grow underneath it but the sealer will not deter mould or mildew as it does not generally have these types of properties. Lastly, if they are hard to clean now keeping them unsealed means they will only get worse over time. SEaling them will make your job a hell of a lot easier! Re: Sealing alfresco tiles?? 3Apr 07, 2015 2:57 pm Thanks miteq! I spoke to the tiler where the tiles were sourced and apparently the tiles I have are unable to be sealed given their properties. Not sure I entirely believe this, but will check with other professional tilers in the area and see what they say Dale - Building Newbie Proserpine, QLD Re: Sealing alfresco tiles?? 5Apr 08, 2015 9:03 pm Yes, they are ceramic, so that explains it!
