Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Apr 06, 2015 1:09 pm I was told today (by a salesperson at a lighting/fan store) that it's a requirement to have a fan in your alfresco. We're building a new house on the Gold Coast. Does anyone know if that is the case? Plantation design their homes to meet the rating without the alfresco fan. Building a modified Simonds Palisade in Brentwood Forest. I would have been shocked if we'd made it to this point without someone saying we had to do it already. My guess is they were talking about resale value - having a fan may make it easier to sell. If your alfresco area won't get much of a sea breeze, having a fan there may also just make it a more pleasant area to be in. The way the guy was talking it was implying that it was a requirement, not just a resale thing. But it seems that it's fine so whew Jen (& Dave) Plantation Bronte, Ormeau Ridge, Gold Coast QLD 12/03/2015 - Commencement... 26/08/2015 - Handover! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=76446 Re: Fan required in alfresco? 7Apr 08, 2015 10:12 am I've got one - never used it - except to keep birds from building a nest on it. Re: Fan required in alfresco? 8Apr 08, 2015 6:58 pm I think in QLD summer it would be good to have for BBQs though Building a modified Simonds Palisade in Brentwood Forest. Our alfresco where we are now isn't insulated and doesn't have a fan and its fine. The alfresco we're building is pretty small, its not a giant undercover space where the air can get really still, so hopefully it's fine! We had one at the house we just moved out of and we had it on all the time especially on hot days. Guess it just depends on personal preference. Not to mention we would leave it on for the dogs too haha The weirdest thing about that house that drove us crazy was we had a fan in the outdoor living but none in the indoor living and no air con either. It didn't make sense to me haha viewtopic.php?t=76386 My home office is hot with computer equipment running virtually 18 hours a day.
