Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Jun 09, 2008 5:30 pm Ok, so I'll try and explain this as best I can...
We have 2 large balconies on our new apartment, and we want them more private than they are at present. We're considering (for the front one) 2 screens, maybe in a bamboo type material, just in each corner, so "frame" the balcony and provide a bit of privacy. For the back balcony, we'd need some sort of screening all the way along, which is quite a way...it stretches all across the width of the study and the master bedroom. Anyway, I HATE that stuff that looks like bunched together thin twigs held by thin bits of wire. Hate it. I so far haven't found an outdoor screen I like that I can actually afford. (including at Bunnings) I have 2 ideas that could be ok, but any advice would be great. 1. Lattice type things. The criss cross pattern ones or the normal square ones. You can buy it in certain lengths and pieces and it looks ok. Not my ideal, but ok especially if you've got big plants all around/in it, which we will. It's also not overly expensive (this is from Bunnings) 2. Wood palings. This is where the point of my post comes in (finally. Sorry!) You know those types of 'fences' you might see in a nice outdoor dining area of a restaurant, where there are thickish nice wood palings going horizontally along and they're quite long, and held together at either end (to a vertical piece of wood) by studs or something? And it's a kind of low fence? It looks really classy and nice? I want this, but in a not so long (on the front patio) but rather high type of fence, and long and high fence at the back patio. This is the next best thing to a screen for me. But I have a feeling, since I've only ever seen this sort of thing in restaurants and expensive houses, that ONCE AGAIN what I really want will be beyond my price range. Why must people who are not rich have to put up with less than attractive furnishings and things!?!? Why must nice things be so damn expensive!? *tantrum* Thank you! I reckon the first is nice, the second is too claustrophic, the third probably works because there's a bit more room. All three are exactly what I meant in terms of the wood style I want.
The first is good, the last is good. The second is definitely too claustrophic. It just goes too high. I think the last one is closest to our own design. We currently have standard balcony type white railings and would be putting the wood on the inner side of this. I wonder how much it'd cost to get the wood and have someone do it. Timber lapped and capped OR colorbond? Thank you. 0 2861 Hi guys We have just removed a very large grape vine which was mounted to a structure along this wall.
