Hi
Over the summer I hired a rotary hoe and dug the backyard. At the time I didn't have very nice grass and had patches of weed grass (that comes in isolated bunches). As I dug the yard, I found inch thick tree roots and lots of plastic (weed mat). I dug more than 30CMS and removed accessible roots, all the weed mat, grass roots, and grass left overs.
I could not plant new grass as it was summer and was advised to wait until it got a little cooler. But in the meantime the weeds just grew all over the yard. I didn't have the kind of weeds last year that are currently growing. there is no grass, I just have lots of weeds in the yard.
I have had a landscaper come over to see what we can do - and I showed the pictures of how we cleaned the place last year. He sort of said we had done a very good job last year and it might be fruitless to do the same again.
He seems to think we might need to excavate the land and bring in new soil completely. He seems genuine and experienced but seemed stumped of ideas. Or atleast thinking of best way forward.
If you came across a similar predicament:
1) what have you done?
2) Should I consider excavating or clean the soil again and plant grass this time (hopefully stopped any weeds from growing)?
3) If I choose to excavate - what considerations should I take? council issues? cables/pipes? anything else?
4) what are things to consider in picking bobcat or excavating?
5) any other advice?
I will really really appreciate it if you can provide any suggestions.
Regards
