Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Jun 06, 2014 5:24 pm I'm building a house on top of another house, turning a single storey house into a dual-occupancy. The existing house has a raised wooden deck which needs replacing, so we will pull that down and build a 2-storey wooden deck in its place, to serve both houses. The downstairs owner (my mother in law) is concerned that the upstairs deck will block light from her north-facing glass doors and windows that open onto her deck. She's right. Has anyone got any experience of using transparent materials to build decks. I guess I mean toughened glass. Is it available? Is it stupidly expensive? thanks! Re: Transparent Deck 2Jun 06, 2014 9:51 pm hmm if the deck is transparent and directly under the top one wouldn't you have ladies wearing dresses and skirts feeling uncomfortable? Re: Transparent Deck 3Jun 06, 2014 11:03 pm Would cost something ghastly. And would be next to impossible without tens of thousands of dollars. I think youre going to struggle to please everyone Re: Transparent Deck 4Jun 07, 2014 7:49 am Agree with the above, there are transparent decks on buildings like Sydney Tower but imagine they would be costly in any application. Have you had any drawings done that represent what the shadows may be, you might be able to get away with the upper deck just being shorter than your MIL's. http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: Transparent Deck 5Jun 07, 2014 9:11 am Sorry - this just remnded me of that NZ advert on decks ...
