Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Apr 04, 2014 12:22 pm Hi All, What is an ideal perfect alfresco size? The house we're considering to build has an outdoor room width of 3.72 & length 5.28. We are considering extending the size to width 6.22 x 6.28 in length. Is this an adequate size to have a few family and friends with outdoor seating/coffee table and dining set? Re: Alfresco Size 3Apr 04, 2014 2:51 pm Our alfresco at he last house was only 4.25 x 3.75 and this was far too small. You cold either have either a small couch setup or a dining table not both. I ended up extending the decking only by the same size which doubled floor area but the 2nd deck wasn't covered. This gave a good size for both table and couches. So I wouldn't personally go any smaller than 8m x 4m http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b38/njectme/House2/house4_zpsefbcbe77.jpg http://www.betterthansheets.com.au - Why use sheets for curtains in your brand new home use Better Than Sheets Temporary Paper blinds instead! Re: Alfresco Size 4Apr 04, 2014 3:55 pm nice setup! that's what we're worried about the last house the alfresco was 5mx 3.72 and with the brick pillars it made the opening smaller. I think 8m would be perfect. We went to one of the display homes and did a measure this was about 5.3 long and i think 5.5 -6 wide below is the pic however this doesn't have a dining... i'd eventually like to have a setup similar to this if we can.. Re: Alfresco Size 5Apr 04, 2014 5:20 pm Mine will be a combination of two rectangles. First one is 5.5 across by 5 deep. The second which joins to form the alfresco is 5 wide by 3.5 deep. The entire lot will be under main roof and the short end will have a wall going in 1.75m and that leaves about 8 m opening. The short end will be where the outdoor kitchen will be. Cheers Mark Re: Alfresco Size 7Apr 04, 2014 9:38 pm Well it is entirely part of the house but for the last 3m it is a hidden skill ion roof that angles out from the second story. I will be have timber lined ceiling and stone floors. We plan on doing a lot of outside cooking so I will most likely get a Goldstein 6 burner gas range. I already have purchased (being held in the shops warehouse) a schweigen BBQ twin engine range hood, a dishwasher and sink. I mocked the entire think up in 3d. Pm me if you want me to send you it. Cheers Mark Re: Alfresco Size 8Apr 05, 2014 8:25 am that'll be awesome! we're planning on doing heaps of outside cooking! and looking around for outdoor setups at the moment so that we can get an idea of the spacing requirements to fit everything nicely. I think we'll have 6.22x6.28 under the main roof and extend out similar to the pic for the bbq outdoor kitchen with sink and fridge. And waterfalls etc... we really want to create the type of landscaping seen in the metricon display homes. Nice work would love to see pics of the alfresco when finished. Re: Alfresco Size 9Apr 05, 2014 10:24 am Here is alfresco in our new house to be built. It is 8240 long by 4240 wide. I will be extending it after hand over to approx 13-14m wide via a patio extension and extra concrete. It should then be around 54m2 big enough for outdoor kitchen, couches and dining table. http://www.betterthansheets.com.au - Why use sheets for curtains in your brand new home use Better Than Sheets Temporary Paper blinds instead! Re: Alfresco Size 10Apr 05, 2014 11:29 am Yep while two sides are open we will still have a strong extractor rangehood to clear the cooking fumes etc and also to preserve the wood lined ceiling. I thought about getting a BBQ but decided that if we are doing more cooking a range would be more practical. Oddly they are pretty good value too. Most of the commercial range cookers come with griddle and tempanyaki plats that either sit on or replace the trivets. They also have wok rings which is good and most burners are around 25Mj. @suspct love the width and wish mine was a little wider at the narrow end but you gotta draw the line somewhere. With that width you can also put a nice wood fired oven or have the whole setup across the back..... Re: Alfresco Size 11Apr 05, 2014 5:06 pm Nice !! good ideas. Mind you i have posted this question on another forum. But this is where we're stuck! Would you spend 8-10k on adding a home cinema room to your house or would you add extra space to an alfresco area if you thought that it wasn't the perfect size your after... ? thoughts much appreciated! Re: Alfresco Size 12Apr 05, 2014 5:20 pm suspct that is a nice alfresco as well. How are you planning on adding the extra outdoor space? I've been to many display homes and what i seem to notice is that they have their standard 4x4 alfresco and then they have this extension over the top that is open you could cover the roof. But it has a nice affect of adding the width or length for that matter. It's similar to that pic ive linked up. Yet my question above is confusing us opportunity cost I guess. Re: Alfresco Size 13Apr 05, 2014 7:33 pm Yes suspct how exactly are you extending? I'm considering this right now - here's the thread I just posted about whether extending an alfresco slab but not a roof is odd or not. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70501 Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Alfresco Size 14Apr 05, 2014 8:22 pm I thought the roof is built out and the slab is a separate pour to the main slab. Similar to the garage. I would add the cinema but i have a preference for home theatre. Regarding extending, you can alway extend out and have a pergola to provide more shade. Hello!
