I read that umbrellas are a favourite nesting spot. Ed "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy. And quite unsafe in terms of diseases. Be careful if they're pooping! I was googling around and apparently an easy way to get rid of them is to keep the umbrella open for a few nights. Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Visitors 10Mar 03, 2014 8:17 am That is pretty cool Ed. I love it when native critters are around. Despite advice to the contrary don't discourage them. I think we should all create areas that native animals can access. One of the reasons why we have a lot of animals at our place is that we planted bird attracting plants etc and left rocks at the side of the house. We have an old house with two mother brushtail possums and their half grown young living under the house, a couple of ringtails in the roof , a magpie family that roosts in one of our trees, several bluetongues that live among the rocks at the side of our house, frogs and tadpoles in our fishpond and numerous other animals and birds that visit nearly everyday - no bats roosting though but we do get the big fruit bats feasting on our Bangalow and Cocos Palm seeds when they are ready. Recent Canadian visitors were amazed with the animals in and around our place especially just after dusk when all the possums get active. If you are worried about the mess they could potentially make, why don't you make up a dummy umbrella and install it over the garden or lawn and encourage them to use it there instead ? Stewie Thanks Stewie. Not planning to evict the bats, they are welcome, they can have the umbrella as long as they like, mess and all (it's very little). We live in the Dandenongs, around our place there are lots of rabbits (!!), foxes (held a fox cub a year back, beautiful creature - yes, I know), kookaburras, lorikeets, king parrots, rosellas, yellow tail black cockatoos (in our pines), lizards, frogs, one cohabiting echidna (Keith), plus wombats, wallabies and kangaroos... and a pair of wedge tail eagles... ... we have lots of fruit trees but see little of the fruit, including a large cherry tree, but yet to taste one... Plus we have the usual menagerie... Ed "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy. Even cooler! We're a bit more restricted being in the suburbs. Keith the cohabiting echidna ??? Is there a story in there ? Stewie Not really, we think he lives at our place, but he thinks we live with him... never argues, he is no trouble at all...
