So im assuming there will be no bearers only joist which will sit on the concrete in bricks.... Im assume there would have too be alot of these though.. Does anybody else have any other methods of frame ideas for such a low area that I have too work with.. roadbase has already been packed down so far in that area too help with drainage of the area. Any help would be great. Matt. Matt Re: Low deck frame suggestion help 2May 18, 2008 8:25 am What about stamped/stencilled concrete?
Does it have to be a timber deck? There are some good aluminium & composite alternatives to timber, that you can put down directly onto concrete without the moisture/rot/termite risk. Re: Low deck frame suggestion help 3May 18, 2008 10:04 am Gday Matt,
This product may be a good compromise for you: http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=5013&highlight= One of our members, TAM, brought it to our attention and after seeing it first hand I have to agree that it is an amazing finish and a great compromise. Considering you already have the roadbase compacted this would be a good solution for you IMO. Re: Low deck frame suggestion help 4May 18, 2008 10:36 am All
That "deck" looks amazing....Any idea which company does that ? Cheers Re: Low deck frame suggestion help 5May 19, 2008 7:18 pm Decks under the BCA must be a minimum of 300mm above the ground. That being said you can do it the way you suggested. You won't need any more joists than if they were on bearers - the joists must be every 450mm regardless. You can also use galvanised post support brackets under the joists. The problem with you height is you are limited to small 90x45 joists so they will need to be supported every 1500mm-1800mm depending on the structual grade you use - thats a LOT of supports you will have to dig holes for. Re: Low deck frame suggestion help 6May 20, 2008 10:11 am You could also lay timber-look ceramic tiles as well. I can't find any good online examples, but I've seen some really nice ones in tile display stores.
Or you could put down these interlocking tiles on top of the concrete: http://www.ezydeck.com/ Greg Those span tables can be pushed a little for a low deck if you dont mind a little flex. Last deck I did, I pushed it a little and it was still rock solid - no noticeable… 6 13735 DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Thanks. I was thinking of using either Extreme Joist or LOWDECK timbers for joists. Any idea what sets them apart and which… 2 12877 This is 100% true.
