You could be annoying and ask him to rip it up, then redo it as it hasn't been done to your specification. We had some edging done ... and it had to be within a certain distance - the width. Of course when I came out and measured it was wider than we'd agreed - I stipulated and re-enforced it had to be under this size. I must say the guy tried to fix it but with curved edges it was hard. In the end he ripped the lot out and did it again. Not happy but he knew he'd done it wrong - he told me it was under the distance and we then measured it. So - its worth putting it on paper.
