Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Nov 28, 2013 12:08 pm Hi folks, New here, so I wasn't quite sure if this was the right thread for my question. I'm planning to build the sign below and would love to know what the cluely people here recommend I use in terms of materials and perhaps construction design: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Each letter will be about 6ft x 4ft depending on standard material sizes. The bottom of the L needs to be strong enough for people to stand on, along with the bottom of the O. I've been recommended to build an X frame inside and use either thin and flexible ply or corflute on the outside. Foam fill was also recommended. I'm unsure. I'd spray paint it and the sign would be used a number of times so it would need to be strong enough to withstand wear (though I can repaint) and be weatherproof. I'd store it when its not in use. Thanks in advance for the help everyone! Re: Building a large 3D sign 2Nov 28, 2013 8:35 pm Foamboard cellfoam or depron. These materials are used all the time in the sign industry and are quite cheap (but all those letters may still cost a fair bit in materials) Structurally these won't hold the weight of a person.. 10mm cellfoam will however with some simple box or truss reinforcement. Re: Building a large 3D sign 3Dec 04, 2013 1:29 pm Thanks mate The sign below was made out of marine ply, though I see from others that ply with sealer is adequate. That plus a few trusses on the points that need the weight do you think? 1 2976 4 4485 consider putting in wall WC instead of robe in the same bedroom, then it might be doable to hook up to the existing piping. 4 6627 |
