Re: Colourful plants - Low Line - Spreading ? 3Aug 18, 2013 8:15 pm I'm not a huge flower person so my knowledge is fairly limited - but - whenever I did want some low colour/flowers in my old garden (this garden is yet to be tackled ), I used impatience/impatiens sp.). They come in numerous colours soon can mix up or stick to one colour theme. They are fairly hardy (from memory). Re: Colourful plants - Low Line - Spreading ? 5Aug 19, 2013 4:26 pm I had a great plant in my garden - called "moses in the cradle" (dwarf rhoeo). It was really pretty with green leaves that were purple underneath and seemed to spread outwards more than grow upwards. According to the label it also has white flowers when in season. I say "had" as the recent ridiculous amount of rain we've had in Victoria has waterlogged and killed the poor thing! NB however that google tells me it can cause allergic reactions in dogs (and I'm gonna draw a conclusion from your profile picture that you have at least one!) so maybe you would rather something else.
My other suggestion would be a silver bush (convulvulus cneorum) which seem to be hardy, have nice white flowers and are prostrate. Hope that helps Re: Colourful plants - Low Line - Spreading ? 6Aug 19, 2013 4:28 pm grom40 I had a great plant in my garden - called "moses in the cradle" (dwarf rhoeo). A bit of salt air, plenty of sunshine, warm winters (mostly), sandy soils, and the occasional tropical downpour - for days. But - can go for weeks with no rain. Hot summers. Also maybe pigface if you prefer succulents, or gazanias if you like daisy type flowers.
