Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Jul 29, 2013 9:58 pm Hi all, We are planning to add a carport, boundary fences, possibly fixing the front fence & gate, and some landscaping to the front & back gardens. As we want to achieve a consistent theme throughout, is it something that a landscape designer can look at to draw the design first, then get a landscape construction company to carry out the work? Looking at some of the landscape companies, most don't do carports and only some does fencing. Alternatively, we can get different companies doing different things, but the final look of the place may not be consistent. Any advice on how we should approach this work? Any recommended companies (can PM me) will also be appreciated. Our home is in Cammeray, NSW. Thank you. Re: Who should I call for these works? 2Jul 30, 2013 10:51 am A decent draftsman is all you need especially seeing that you will have to lodge a DA with Nth Sydney Council for the carport add-on. You could go architect but that'll cost you a fair bit more. Once you have a site plan with some elevations as well, getting a landscaper involved for his/her input would be advisable before you go to the council. It will also depend on what style your house is as well. Stewie Re: Who should I call for these works? 5Aug 01, 2013 10:40 am Hi XYA, North Sydney DCP does not allow to build carport at the front of the property, assuming you would like to have one at the front. Having said that it is normally a harder to have the carport approved, one of my clients in Cammeray had to go through a Council meeting to have it approved. For this type of development you need a designer, able to follow up with Council, do proper plans and provide area calculations, and materials selections, while for the other works I suggest a landscape company or again a designer should be able to do the job. Bear in mind that unless you have already a car stand area you will need some engineer drawings for the driveway. NSC is very focused on driveway compliances. Fencing is also probably something the designer can help you with. Cheers Andrea Re: Who should I call for these works? 6Aug 01, 2013 6:07 pm Thanks for the advice, Andrea. I did hear something similar about North Sydney Council. Unfortunately, I'm hoping to build a carport at the front of the house. My only argument is that many houses on the same street already have that. Should I get the carport design up & approved first before going to a landscape designer, or the other way around? Re: Who should I call for these works? 7Aug 02, 2013 2:06 pm Nth Sydney Council ( and most of the others on the North Shore etc ) can be persuaded to allow them if there are others that have set a precedent in the street. That's how I've got others through before. The carport will be the big item in your scheme of things so apply for the DA for that ( and the fences as well ) before you do any of the other work. While the DA is in the council being processed you can draw up a landscaping plan and set that in motion although I'd finish off all the construction work before doing any gardening work like planting shrubs, laying turf etc. Stewie Hi All, I just wanted to close this topic out with an update. So we ended up agreeing to a number with the insurance company, and after an extensive amount of hand… 8 23388 MBA and HIA both have sub contract agreements, check them out 2 7303 I want to build a bigger driveway (without a nature strip) than has been approved under my CDC. I’ve also had a DA approved to build a deck. It looks like I can do this… 0 4797 |
