Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 May 24, 2013 12:25 pm I need to get some pipe lagging and want to know two things: 1. Is there is any type of pipe lagging that doesn't degrade in the sun. 2. If no to the above, what is the best way to protect it? I've been told to cover it in aluminium foil but that would look odd and also maybe not stay on so easily. I've thought of putting electrical conduit around it but that seems like over-engineering. I've also considered reflective tape but that may not last in the weather. Cheers. You can buy closed cell foam tubing with a split seam, in Clark Rubber (black is naturally UV stable), you could use batts(?), which are fibreglass and therefore UV stable. Be warned it's relatively on the dear side. Now if the pipe run against a wall, an easier solution which will last a lifetime would be to make up top hat sections out of gal sheetmetal and fix over your pipes. Re: Best option for pipe lagging 4Jul 09, 2013 5:32 pm The top hat sections of gal sheetmetal sounds like a good idea for the pipes against a wall and I think it will look better than lagging - but I have two questions: 1. Will it actually insulate as well as lagging? 2. How do I make them up? Do I just get them made up by a roofing company? Re: Best option for pipe lagging 5Jul 09, 2013 6:42 pm The top hat will not provide insulation. What size pipes and what service i.e. hot/cold water, refrigerant lines for A/C?? If you need to insulate, use the armaflex split tube, glue and tape (foam insulating tape) the seams and joins. You can buy plastic pipe covers that are used commonly to cover your A/C refrig lines, or you can get any sheet metal shop to fold you up some top hat section to suit the dimensions you need. examples: http://www.insulationindustries.com.au/ ... oryid=1119 http://www.websupply.com.au/hvac-produc ... overs.html Re: Best option for pipe lagging 7Jul 17, 2013 5:35 pm I'd suggest any hardware store or Bunnings should have some. Wherever you buy insulation from would definitely have it. Newbie question for flooring options. We are thinking of changing the flooring for bedrooms and passage area.
