Wondering if anyone can suggest some decently priced ideas for an outdoor bricked BBQ area.
We have had this built out in the open so the tops will need to be happy to deal with mother nature.
Granite is probably out....

I seem to recall someone saying do not put engineered stone in the sun, as the glues would go off!! can anyone confirm this? Engineered stone such as caesarstone, quantum quartz, etc are not suitable for outdoor use. These products are crushed up stone that are compressed with binders. In the outdoors the UV rays from the sun break down the binders and you will find the stone begins to fade and chalk over time. Ultimately it will become an expensive mistake Re: Outdoor BBQ Benchtops 11Aug 14, 2013 9:23 pm Any other options then???? Building the Riva by Dale Alcock Homes. Maybe some supported villaboard and a tiled surface. Large tiles or pavers or maybe think outside the square and look for some old ornate gates or table top/seat from a cast iron table/chair. http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: Outdoor BBQ Benchtops 13Aug 14, 2013 11:50 pm We need 1000 x 600 and 500 x 600. A friend of ours used wood - I think it was a slab of merbau(sp??)!from Masters and the guy there actually recommended it to him with some sort of coating to paint on it for weather protection. It didn't really work as the timber started curling up on the ends and warping. It was quite thick too, maybe 30mm. So I guess wood is definitely out of the question... I have some timber shelves on the side of my pizza oven that I made with merbau decking and oil them about once a month. its not hard to do but you need to do it often otherwise it will perish. It looks great but not something I would recommend + its really hard to get bird poo off etc unless you always take to it with a powerhose. If I ever do it again I will make a treated timber frame (or maybe even have a steel one made), cover it with villaboard and tile over. http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: Outdoor BBQ Benchtops 17Aug 15, 2013 6:52 pm MissEm Cool thanks. When you use timber you need the make sure you coat both sides evenly. If you don't it will result in the timber bowing/curling Re: Outdoor BBQ Benchtops 18Aug 16, 2013 9:23 am JML 71monaro maximus You can source caesarstone etc off cuts relatively easily. Indoor kitchens will generally receive light through a window and standard glass does have some UV properties. Unless specially treated, standard glass will allow UV-A through but will block UV-b and UV-c. http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Thanks for letting us know.
