Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Mar 22, 2013 5:36 pm Hi There People, I've been preparing to a build a small deck and pergola off the back of our townhouse. Done all the research and read plenty of this forum in fact, but have found myself brought up short by the question of colour - it's just not something I'm particularly good with it seems! Are there any more clever people out there with some suggestions? It's only 3 x 4m, and I've purchased Merbau for the decking material, along with a pair of 90 x 90 Merbau posts. However, the roof will be constructed from treated pine ... I was thinking about staining the pine, but I read online that it doesn't last and tends to look 'not-so-good'. With that in mind, would anyone have any clever suggestions about a colour of paint that would go nicely with the Merbau posts/decking? Thanks a heap, appreciate any advice or tips, Cheers, James Re: Pergola/Deck Colour Advice 2Mar 22, 2013 6:35 pm Hi James, As an example to your question, I painted my verandah posts and with a cream colour, paperbark. This gives a nice contrast to the whole deck and blends in well with the underneath of the Colorbond roofing. This worked well because my guttering and downpipes are Colorbond Paperbark so there is a nice blend between the verandah and house. I also considered a natural stain and it would have looked nice but only if I used Cypress Pine rather than rough headed treated pine. Considering you bought Merbau posts, You might want to leave the posts as a stain and paint the roof supports. Re: Pergola/Deck Colour Advice 3Mar 23, 2013 7:17 pm Hey Adam, Yeah I wasn't going to paint the posts, but just leave them be and/or stain them the same colour as the decking. I like the idea of a light colour, thanks for the tip!
