Decking or Paving or Aggregate for Alfresco

even in the rain yesterday received a few quotes for various items around the yard including fencing and it added to over ten thousand wow not to get more qoutes

Yeah... We had a deposit rampage last year... Let's leave deposit for this and then let's leave deposit for that

Now it's back to saving before we can actually finish the house

We are getting grano in our alfresco and on the verandah/portico area. That way we can have decking without weeds coming up through the deck if we want to or have tiles. I'm a bit torn at the moment but leaning more towards tiles in the alfresco. I think they are easier to maintain (hose and broom occasionally) and they don't warp. They are good for thermal mass too.

Decking might be better out the front of our house though as we have a west aspect and it might help with the heat. Lots to think about.

We are also having grano in our alfresco area but my partner is thinking about putting decking over this and I'm keen to have tiles over this too.

Do you know if DIY decking would be easier over grano or pavers? I've heard lots of holes are needed to be drilled and worried we won't be able to get through the grano being as tough as it is.

Has anyone done a DIY deck over grano?

We are decking over grano alfresco, not finished yet, frame was drilled into concrete ok.

Hi, we are using jarrah timber, its a solid board and really thick, we got it at absolute timber in Wangara and it was a good price, we have 60sq mt to lay! Front veranda starts tomorrow.

Good luck with the veranda - not too difficult a job for a novice?

I am not doing it, our good friend is a carpenter and he is meticulous with his work, I would not know where to start :oops:

He is also picture framing it for a nicer look. It is looking great.
