Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Jan 25, 2013 9:40 am Call it what you will - does anyone think this area can be too big or too small ? Should it be in proportion to the house and land ? I've worked out a space that takes a reasonable rectangular table - 6/8 chairs, plus a sitting area away from the table area - plus the barbeques. I keep being told more space is needed. But - we're not going to have a barn dance out there ! The outside area is large and then has the eaves overhang - ie about 45cms. I feel also having the stacker doors opening onto it will make it seem "bigger" still. Re: Alfresco / Verandah / Outside Area - SIZE ? 2Jan 25, 2013 9:52 am Do you have a pic of the design SM? Re: Alfresco / Verandah / Outside Area - SIZE ? 3Jan 25, 2013 9:56 am No. Think a rectangle. Basically about 3.3m x about 10m. Under roof line with eaves not included - ie they are an additional 45cms. I also have a paved area off the outside narrow end - about 2 metres. The Stacker doors open to the long side - which I feel will make it all "bigger". Re: Alfresco / Verandah / Outside Area - SIZE ? 4Jan 25, 2013 10:04 am I think that will be nice.... effectively you have some shelter from weather and can sit in the open when its sunny. one end can be used for undercover cooking etc. mine is 3.5M x 5.5m and 5m x 5m with the smaller ends taking care of the outside kitchen etc. also have a stacker leading out to the area. I guess it will also depend on what direction the weather comes from. Cheers Mark Re: Alfresco / Verandah / Outside Area - SIZE ? 5Jan 25, 2013 10:22 am Ours is 6.4 x 4.7 and i feel it's plenty big enough. We have an outdoor lounge setting, an 8 seater dining setting and a weber and there is still plenty of room ! We haven't got a built in bbq as we prefer to be able to move ours around. we have bi-folds at one end and a sliding door to the other side. The long side faces north so gets sun most of the day. Once the bi-folds are opened up completely the inside practically becomes the outside anyway. Re: Alfresco / Verandah / Outside Area - SIZE ? 6Jan 25, 2013 4:40 pm Yep - mine's wide enough and plenty long. I reckon with the eaves it adds a bit more too. But ... someone else feels it could be a bit bigger. Re: Alfresco / Verandah / Outside Area - SIZE ? 7Jan 25, 2013 9:12 pm your alfresco to me is big and having the stacker doors will make it even bigger. we went also with the cornerless stacker doors off the alfresco. ours from memory i think is 6m long x about 4m width and on the other side about 5m in width Re: Alfresco / Verandah / Outside Area - SIZE ? 8Jan 25, 2013 9:40 pm If you talk to anyone with a verandah / covered outdoor area / alfresco / etc. none will say "Oh I think it’s a bit too big" but you will find a lot of people that will say "I wish the area was a bigger" You can never go big enough! Our new place has an alfresco area of 8m x 4.8m, big enough for an eight seater table, a couple couches and a BBQ/wet area. We too are having doors (over 6m of bi-folds) opening off the main living room which will open up the entire area. Oh, did I mention You can never go big enough!!! ----------------------------------------------- http://pab34newdigs.blogspot.com.au/ ----------------------------------------------- Re: Alfresco / Verandah / Outside Area - SIZE ? 9Jan 26, 2013 7:39 am Our place will have an alfresco/balcony of 4.92m x 7.31m. We haven't started building yet but it seems big enough for a lounge, table and BBQ. Being one unit - so to speak - I reckon its big enough - agree its always good to have lots of space. But with the doors open and the right set-up we should be quite OK. Also - generally it won't be a party situation ... Hi, I'll be starting on my verandah repair soon - replace ledger, rafters, roofing iron, flashing etc. (fascia board already done).
