Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Dec 05, 2012 11:15 am Hey all, im wanting to re-oil the deck out the back. previously i have used a jarrah colour finish and have decided i would rather a clear finish to keep the merbau colour. 1. what is the best product for the job?? 2. is price a big factor when looking at the decking oils? 3. id there a UV protection product that can be used??? Yours HOPEFULLY!! Cheers Re: What is The Best Product Merbau Decking??? 2Dec 10, 2012 9:23 am I can only tell you what my experience has been. I use Feast Watson with a Merbau tint. Overall I am not happy with the product and kicking myself that I bought 10 litres of it. The oil applied to a weathered deck looks nice with a deep brown colour. But: a. Over time the colour degrades to an orange b. Anything sanded down will have the orange tinge to it whereas the rest will be nice and brown c. It’s a water base so stiff luck when you want to switch to an oil based oil There was a lot of fury around the adoption of the water base considering the issue above and the fact they just one day switched it over without proper labelling etc. I have heard that Sickens make a good product of which yes, price does come into it. You will generally hear “product Y will give you 12mths before recoat and product X will give you 18ths”. The ability to hold the colour comes down to the quality of the oil which comes down to the UV protectant properties. All in all, visit your local paint specialist such as Paint Spot. There they will give you expert advice and point you in the right direction. Also, avoid water based oils which will give you a greater range of product when you decide to recoat your deck. Re: What is The Best Product Merbau Decking??? 4Jan 02, 2013 8:33 pm We use Intergrain's Ultradeck - it does a beautiful job, smells good and only needs water to clean up. http://www.intergrain.com.au/ultradeck.html Hi, as per the subject. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best value decking oil (Bunning is close to where I live) for a treated pine deck? Thanks 0 10970 Use a product like Equisol's Vitalise to clean the deck then coat with a penetrating timber oil. It will look 10 years younger and add value to your home.
