Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Nov 14, 2012 9:41 am Hi, after months of looking for DIY info about outdoor kitchen, I still am scratching my head to as what is ok to use. Its going to be undercover like in a alfresco area so no direct rain. Maybe a ikea kitchen? looking at this one http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/categ ... hen/10794/ . I am wanting it to be strong enough tho because a pizza oven and BBQ will be sitting ontop of the base cabnets. Another idea is to get my Jack of all trades DH to make it out of blockwork, render it and get some stainless steel doors made. A stone benchtop would then be put ontop. Has anyone DIY a outdoor kitchen? Anyone got it done professionaly? I am in love with a outdoor kitchen Ive found but at $14,000 its not in our budget. Please post pics and let me know any info Thanks Forrester 43sq We have our keys (3/6/11) Now it's time to decorate (that's the fun part.lol) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=37598 Re: Outdoor kitchen DIY VS Professional HELP! 2Nov 14, 2012 12:56 pm besser block it in the areas you need strength or heat effected. Timber stud it for the rest w/ cement sheet. Render or tile it, stone top it. Its not that difficult to do and wont cost that much. Re: Outdoor kitchen DIY VS Professional HELP! 3Nov 14, 2012 1:16 pm Thanks tengals. Thats what we were intending to do as the wall its against is besser block that DH is rendering. I just would of like something that looks more like a kitchen rather than a outdoor bbq area if you know what I mean. We have already got the stone benchtop which was made at the same time as the kitchen. He will build the cabinets with "plastic" sheeting. Not sure of the exact name and will give details when I have them. He is a cabinet maker by trade and said the "plastic should last for a very long time and will obviously not swell or warp when wet. Sorry to jump your thread but while the kind folk on here give their advice I am wondering what to do with the brickwork that the outdoor kitchen butts up to. We have a Wok burner and do a lot of Wok cooking (main reason for outdoor). There is a lot of oil splatter at the high temp and while we will put a stainless splash between the cooker and ducted rangehood a fair bit will splatter on the adjoining bricks. Should we seal them and if so what is the best product? Re: Outdoor kitchen DIY VS Professional HELP! 5Nov 16, 2012 8:56 am all good for the take over. Its great to get anyheads up with products for the outdoor kitchen. Infact, I never thought about that issue but now I am. I think in any are that will be affected by oil splatter, you should have some sort of splashback. You can seal the bricks but if you want to be able to clean it easily, maybe tile it. Hope you post some pics for it during the construction and the end product. Have also been told to build one out of steel tubing for the frame, then blue board for the outside. Then use good hardware. Marine plywood for cabnets and draw front painted in 2 pak auto paint. Then stone benchtops. Due to the chemicals used to bond the quartz. This restricts me to using granite, marble or stainless steel (very hot) for a easily maintained bench surface on outer edge of alfresco. Will have Weber q in cupboard underneath, to place on top during cooking. Any other suggestions? It looked terrific. Depends on how smooth a surface you want. 2 Re: Outdoor kitchen DIY VS Professional HELP! 9Feb 05, 2013 3:06 pm I was actually looking at using the merbua benchtops from bunnings as the bench on the island bench as there is no heat there. Tiles are a great idea as well. Kek - Slate would look great, maybe even crazy paving? I have also heard the eng stone rumour as well. Maybe a kitchen guy could give us a heads up. Any who. Heres some outdoor kitchen ideas to keep us entertained in the meantime. Maybe some new ideas???? WARNING.... MAJOR PIC OVERLOAD!!!!!!!! Couldn't find the thread again because I was on my phone using tapatalk. Re: Outdoor kitchen Ideas, pics, questions, help PIC OVERLOA 13Feb 06, 2013 9:26 am Hi rudolf, I have noticed for a while that you have been looking into this...... I myself are in the process of planning very similar ideas to yours. Actually most the pictures posted are ones I have saved also.... I have been out and about to see display one ones, friends etc.... Generally this is how they are made.... 1. TP frames, blueboarded, rendered and benchtop either tiled, stoned or polished concrete 2. some I have seen have welded box steel frames 3. same are made from besser blocks and rendered.... I asked my stonemason for the bbq built in, as long as there is a good 30-40mm gap around the bbq, it wont effect the stone. For a pizza oven not sure.... you could maybe do a combination of tile and stone (tile closer to the oven boarder or similar) I will post pictures of my project when i get started in a month or so time.... Re: Outdoor kitchen Ideas, pics, questions, help PIC OVERLOA 15Feb 06, 2013 10:01 am yeah have been toying with this for over 2 yrs now. With constant delay in building our outdoor area, I have had more time to research. Pizza oven tends to be sitting on cement sheet with fire brickd ontop. So the section would have no stone "benchtop' anyway more like tiles or even stainless is better. But a good pizza oven is so well isulated you can leave your hand on the dome without being burnt. Tengals where did you get the glass fridge brom? I accidently went overboard with the chisel trying to chip all the ice from our barfrige that was desp for a defrost.lol. I sorta puncture the gas linein the freezer shelf. oooopppps!lol. So we are currently sacrificing a shelf in our inside fridge for the beer etc. So hubby is now getting his wish and buying a fancy glass bar fridge. But they are so expensive! Also please make sure you keep us posted with progress and pics of everything and anything. Only thing i will do is change the fluro lights in it for a blue/duller colour... the lights are so so bright Re: Outdoor kitchen Ideas, pics, questions, help PIC OVERLOA 17Feb 12, 2013 8:57 am Anyone else have pics or ideas????
