Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Oct 08, 2012 5:23 pm Hi, I have read and printed out the fu manchu/ wrexters guide to laying turf and after care so will be following all those instructions to the letter, I currently have couch which is around 30 years old my back yard is quite open as there are small trees (no higher than 3m) on the northern and western boundary, my problem is the south side in winter doesnt get any sun, the couch goes completely barren every year once autumn comes and the only thing that grows successfully is winter grass. I like the look of the palmetto but just want the best lawn to perform in sun and shade and that deals with our winds that dries everything out as it will be fully exposed to the easterlys. My soil is quite good as I have worms and have used bentonite and piggy post previously also molasses/seasol mix and will be arming myself with all the other products very soon to be ready. Do you still have to buy the 'starter' stuff they sell with the lawn (I know they recommend this with sir walter) as well as doing all the preparation? I am planning on doing all this next week to try and beat the hot weather so would appreciate some quick replies for those in the know. Re: Lawn best for northern coastal suburbs of WA 2Oct 08, 2012 7:24 pm dont bother with the starter stuff. what you are doing is heaps better.
