Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Jul 04, 2012 8:23 am Hi guys, I'm planning to do my own decking in the front patio and at the alfresco area. To start off, I will be doing the patio which is just a few sq m. So far, after asking bunnings i have the following things I need to do my decking: 1) Drill ($200) 2) Drop saw - $70 3) Treated Pine 4) Decking Screws 5) Merbau Decking It seems simple to me, I first need to create the structure around the area and with a spacing of .5 metres. Then I need to do the merbau decking around the structure first, then proceed with the decking. What the bunnings dude told me is I need to drill a hole first on the merbau before actually screwing it since it will be hard for me to drill the screw directly without drilling a hole. My question is, since I'm doing this on top of concrete, what do I need to do to put the structure in place? Do I just nail the structure to the concrete? Let me know if I'm missing anything as this is my first DIY project.... Re: doing my own decking? what do i need 2Jul 04, 2012 8:54 am there are plenty of threads on this already, u might just need to do a search. however i found this one to be most helpful on the * http://www.*.com/f196/bluem ... post869266 Re: doing my own decking? what do i need 4Jul 07, 2012 6:20 pm Have a look here also for more info, heaps on decks http://www.*.com/f196/ Re: doing my own decking? what do i need 5Jul 20, 2012 1:07 pm We are doing our own. After a LOT of research and gathered information we actually went to Softwoods who designed/engineering a plan and sold us a 'kit' so we just have to put it together basially. We have some areas attached to concrete which is done with brackets.. I suggest having a chat to them.. We worked out maybe $2k at Bunnings plus this way we know we have just what we need, not doing a million trips to the shop for forgotten things etc.. Worth a chat to them! Hi, as per the subject. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best value decking oil (Bunning is close to where I live) for a treated pine deck?
