Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Jun 24, 2012 9:15 am Hi all, I am starting to plan what I want in our Alfresco. I want to include a wall mounted TV and Alfresco kitchen with built in BBQ and Pizza oven. We will be overlooking a gorge and will be spending a lot of time out there so i want to get it right. Please have a look at what i have set out and let me know if you like it or would do things differently. The sink will be plumbed hot and cold water and the BBQ with be main gas. Would also be very interested if anyone knows if would be able to use indoor materials here eg: for the kitchen or do they have to be something more durable. You'd need to check manufacturer's recommendations and warranty conditions to see whether a particular product is suitable for outdoor use. Engineered stone and stainless steel are used a lot in outdoor areas, as is hardwood treated with an appropriate sealer. Laminates over particle board/MDF might not stand up to outdoor conditions...Ceramic or sealed stone tiles can make a durable bench top, so that's another alternative. I'd be especially careful with things like sinks, fridges etc - make sure your warranty is still valid if it's installed outdoors. Re: Alfresco Planning 3Jun 26, 2012 10:22 pm There are some laws about a BBQ in an area enclosed on three sides. It would need to have an indoor rated hot plate. Ok if open on two sides to vent gasses. I didn’t think of stainless steel I will check that out.. Really Monaro there is a difference ? Is this a state of federal law ? Re: Alfresco Planning 5Jun 29, 2012 6:15 am Would personally split the items up, push the BBQ towards the front opening (who wants to stare at a wall), even if it means building nib wall, sink in the corner maybe a bit cramped. Its a bit hard to visualize without an overall plan / aspect of the block Landscape Design & Construction http://cherub.squarespace.com/ Re: Alfresco Planning 6Jun 29, 2012 9:58 am As the BBQ and pizza ovens are both heat sources I would keep the fridges as far from them as possible. Maybe both fridges close to house, followed by sink, then BBQ & pizza oven? Would also mean that fridges are easier to access when dining table is being use. MDF will just swell.
