Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Jun 15, 2012 11:36 am We've noticed a few of the new buildings in the city have a verandas around them with a glass roof. After seeing it, we would love to put it over a part of our backyard where we have a quite a few plants as they would get sun but get the benefit of an additional covered area in winter. We wanted to get a quote to see how feasible it is. However, after doing a search online, I can't find places that do it. Do you know of any places that do glass roofs for patios? Re: Glass Roof for Patio 4Jun 18, 2012 12:11 pm It's going to sit on an angle overlapping an existing roof with a gap approximately 30-40mm above the roof. It would be only 2m wide as it's a narrow area, so there should be plenty of air flow. The only purpose is to provide protection in the rain and hold a bit of heat in when we use the gas heaters when we have people over; the area we're thinking of only gets sun for 3-4 hours a day in summer and 1-2 hours in winter due to the high fence next to it (the neighbours property is 1.8m higher than ours). The sun there is awesome, especially in winter, as it's the only natural heating that part of the house gets; with a patio that area would freeze. Even in summer most of the time the rooms next to the area are cold; it's only when we get a heat wave that they warm up. There's vines growing in 1/2 of the area too. I'm worried if we go for polycarbonate sheeting that the vines will die off as they won't get enough sun due to the UV filters in the sheeting, and shade cloth doesn't help the rain issue (we'd be better saving our money and just leaving it in the open). There's heaps of walkways in the city that have the glass (that's how we can up with the idea), but I just can't find anywhere that does it. Unless, can you think of something else that provides rain protections without blocking the sun and UV rays the plants need? Thanks for the insights, that makes perfect sense, and yeah, I will be leaning on the experience of the excavator operator entirely. 6 16159 Firstly the ableflex that has been installed needs (manufactures specification) a sealant cap over the top, preventing water draining down between the slab and the… 3 7793 If your patio is going to be 35 sqm then that's going to need Council Approval.
