Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Jun 01, 2012 1:51 pm I am having my balcony replaced due to water leaks. The builder who is doing the work has turned up the liquid waterproofing membrane by 100mm up the walls on the deck. The waterproof membrane on the deck floor is starting to bubble, which he claims is due to water coming from our neighbours. From the research I have done, I believe that turning up the waterproofing on the external side of the wall is likely to be causing a problem as water will leach into the wall higher up, then already be behind the waterproofing membrane by the time it reaches the 100mm turn up at the bottom. Does anyone know how the waterproofing should be turned up on a balcony / deck? Is what he has done incorrect? There is always a chance there is also a problem coming from the neighbour, but for now is the way it has been done correct? Attached are some photos. http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/823/photo1ut.jpg http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/191/photo2ycp.jpg http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/7/photo3by.jpg Many thanks Re: Waterproofing and turn ups / flashing 2Jun 03, 2012 8:13 pm The 100mm is an adequate turn up. That wall looks wet and at a high level which is curious. Re: Waterproofing and turn ups / flashing 3Jun 03, 2012 9:18 pm Thanks builderforlife Yes we're thinking of getting someone to take a look. Just wanted to know if our expectations were wrong. As this turn up is on the front of the wall, rather than behind the blueboard and render, I suspect that the water is getting behind the turn up as it runs down the wall, and that's what's causing the water to leak into our garage below.
