Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 May 29, 2012 5:47 pm I'm looking into buying an outdoor furniture set. Which material do you think to go for? Teak or Rattan? Re: Wooden teak or Rattan? 2May 29, 2012 8:14 pm It all depends on the look you want. Rattan will break down with weather and use, teak will need oiling but lasts longer especially if maintained. Alternatively you could purchase the fake rattan sets (in a plastic resin that doesn't rot or warp)? Some of them look so real you can't tell what they are until you touch them.... Not sure of cost of them though. Re: Wooden teak or Rattan? 3May 31, 2012 9:13 pm We have teak and some other hardwood furniture and with a 6-monthly oil (which is easy-peasey), it stays as good as new, even out in the weather. If you want to save some $$, have a hunt through the second hand stuff on eBay. I picked up a massive carved recycled teak daybed for $600 when similar ones were selling for over $2000. All it needed was a light sand and a few coats of oil. If I was to get rattan, I'd go for the synthetic stuff for sure.
