Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Mar 27, 2012 10:02 pm Hi We have a 2 storey home and have used Modwood on the decking of the balcony on the 1st storey. Our neighbour has a tall eucalyptus tree that sheds lots of leaves - these have slid under our Modwood planks (see image with the modwood removed) http://s1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj531/syd-yyz1/ . We sweep the deck regularly but obviously the leaves can still get through. There is approx 5mm between the Modwood planks. We have a drain under the deck so are keen to have this kept as clean as possible and not to have leaves clogging up the drain. Part of the deck forms the ceiling of the basement and the other half overhangs the basement level. Is there a way we can prevent or reduce the amount of leaves getting under the Modwood? We thought about putting silicone between the gaps of the planks but has been advised by the Modwood people this will damage the Modwood as it needs air to breathe (they couldn't come up with any solution). Removing the Modwood planks on a regular basis will not be feasible as that will damage the planks. Re: How to prevent leaves accumulating under outdoor decking 2Mar 29, 2012 2:06 am Hi sydyyz. Unfortunately I can't see any easy fix for your situation. If the deck wasn't laid then maybe you could've stretched out flywire over the joists and then laid the deck over the top. This would've prevented leaves getting right through. As it is though, I don't think there is any way of stopping them getting through. Can you blow them out from above with a blower? Does anyone have any recommendations for the best value decking oil (Bunning is close to where I live) for a treated pine deck? Thanks 0 1290 Use a product like Equisol's Vitalise to clean the deck then coat with a penetrating timber oil. It will look 10 years younger and add value to your home.
