Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Mar 15, 2012 5:59 pm Hi, We have to attach some sort of guard rail and hand rail to our outdoor concrete and concrete steps. http://i858.photobucket.com/albums/ab144/lee75_2009/DSC01910.jpg As you can see from the picture it is quite the hazard at the moment as it is 1.2m high and we have small kids and a dog. We are just having trouble working out how to attach the guard rail and the hand rail to the concrete with nothing solid to anchor them to. All of the clips I have seen online seem to include at least 2 parts attached to something solid ie; a brick wall which makes sense as I imagine it would give it stability.. we don't have that option, ours can only be attached to the concrete floor. Is it even possible to do that safely? Also do we make the guardrail and handrail wood or metal. And last question - is this better left to the experts? If yes, is that a carpenter who would do that or some other tradesperson... Thanks in advance Re: Help attaching guardrail and handrail to concrete steps 2Mar 15, 2012 7:23 pm Have your builders not factored a rail / barrier into the build? A landing over 1m off the ground is required to have a rail / barrier, so it should have been on the plans and part of the build Re: Help attaching guardrail and handrail to concrete steps 3Mar 15, 2012 8:53 pm Thanks for your response! We got the concreting done after the build finished - before then (at the end of the build) there was just a slope with dirt there. Definitely our responsibility unfortunately!
