Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Mar 05, 2012 5:50 pm Hi, Looking for inspiration & advice on design and elements of our outdoor kitchen in our alfresco area. We have a bench length of approx 3.8m and we are trying to work out the best way to set it out, we know which BBQs we are considering, and the cabinetry & bench tops we are continuing the same as throughout the house... But we would love to know what others have chosen for sinks, range hoods & mini fridges for their alfresco... Would also love to see pics... Please show me your outdoor kitchens... Also wondering about what everyone chose for the material for the cabinets & benchtops and if you were happy with it... Cheers, Re: Alfresco Kitchens 2Mar 11, 2012 11:54 pm Hi steveandmary. Just thought I'd post up some pic's of an alfresco kitchen I built and installed for a customer. It may give you an idea for your kitchen. Stone benchtops, stainless steel door and drawers with s/s base under barbeque and a beef eater bbq. Looks the goods Maybe you can answer a few questions we've got... In the reno plans we are kinda set the same way as this... bifold doors leading out from the living area onto the alfresco... same orientation... our benchtops going to be about 3.8m...We are trying to figure out how to get an average of 30% opening in the remainder 3 walls for safety requirements... Steve's got his heart set on either a Rinnai or a Webber... whats the deal with Beefeaters? Whenever we see them in display homes they looked wrecked before they are even used... but they seem to be everywhere... I assume the benchtop is natural stone not manufactured like essastone etc? Re: Alfresco Kitchens 5Mar 19, 2012 8:42 pm We compared the rinnai and beefeater BBQ. My DH can get Rinnai at cost price, so was very keen on the Rinnai from a price point of view and had previously owned one, however when comparing it to the Beefeater signature series, it was like chalk and cheese, the burners, mj etc are far superior in the beefeater, so we ended up with the beefeater. WE also bought the same beefeater rangehood, after comparing the schwiegan and quasair, the filters are far superior on the beefeater (even though I liked the look of the others). WE looked at the bar fridges with theglassdoors, hoeeverafter looking into them we realsied the majority do not allowyou to stand a bottle upright, notgood with a bottle of white wine opened, so we went for Westinghouse stainless steel, but wil put it behind cabinet doors. We wil be having ceaserstone benchtop and tiled splashback, we have seen some displays with glass splashback but they are apparently useless behind a BBQ due to the heat. Re: Alfresco Kitchens 6Mar 20, 2012 11:48 pm Thanks Gogo65 we have been told that aside from custom made, the beefeater is the only real option as our set up will be classified as indoor... I'm thinking about the laminex metaline for splash back... We Are just waiting for a couple of quotes from local suppliers before we start throwing a bunch more questions into the ring... Hi Mary. You seem to have ended up with the Beefeater anyway, but I've installed them in 3 outdoor kitchens I've done and they always look good. Like anything outside they need a little cleaning now and then to look there best but they always seem to clean up well. As regards benchtops, unless it will be completely out of the sun I'd recommend sticking with real stone or stainless steel. The manufactured stones (caesarstone, essastone etc) aren't designed for direct sunlight exposure as the resins used can be affected. How did you go with your openings, did you manage to get the 30% opening you were chasing? That particular kitchen was open on 2 sides with pull down screens used to close it off when needed. The bench top will be completely protected from direct light though so I guess that opens up our options there. Re: Alfresco Kitchens 9May 20, 2012 5:30 pm Anyone else got pics? We won't be having a full outdoor kitchen. Maybe extend our alfresco with an open pergola and build in a BBQ with stone benches. We need DIY tips & inspiration as we are on a budget. Re: Alfresco Kitchens 10Jun 04, 2012 8:41 pm This is what we did with our Alfresco and outdoor kitchen. Re: Alfresco Kitchens 12Jul 17, 2012 12:01 pm Im lurking due to the fact we also have to start designing our outdoor kitchen/dining/lounge area. What materials are recommended for cupbourds etc to withstand outside elements? Any more pics? Anyone with outdoor fire places? Thanks Forrester 43sq We have our keys (3/6/11) Now it's time to decorate (that's the fun part.lol) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=37598 Re: Alfresco Kitchens 13Jul 20, 2012 6:40 pm I too am interested in further info on outdoor kitchens. Our outdoor kitchen will be mostly undercover, with just one end of it that will be exposed to the elements. I know this is a silly question but is there any way at all that we could have a flat pack or laminex kitchen at all? Especially if we were to have a stainless cabinet or something at the end that is near the elements? Has anyone done this at all? Thanks very much. Our building thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=53911 Re: Alfresco Kitchens 14Jul 25, 2012 7:31 pm Was looking at some of this stuff today. Why are outdoor BBQ ramgehoods so expensive , what can't I use a cheap euro 900mm rangehood for 500 bucks instead of the 2 -3k beasts I see on some websites ? Why are priates scary ? Because they yaargh.. Re: Alfresco Kitchens 15Jul 25, 2012 8:22 pm In regards to range hoods, it has something to do with the MJ load of the BBQ, so a normal range hood won't be covered by warranty if put over a BBQ. We ended up buying a beefeater one, after lots of research, the schweigen and Electrolux ones both had very flimsy filters, whereas the beefeater had solid filters. Ours will be installed next week, so will post some photos. Re: Alfresco Kitchens 16Jul 25, 2012 8:26 pm Captain Morgan Was looking at some of this stuff today. Why are outdoor BBQ ramgehoods so expensive , what can't I use a cheap euro 900mm rangehood for 500 bucks instead of the 2 -3k beasts I see on some websites ? As it was explained to me the indoor units move 600-700 m3 of air. Over the BBQ there is a lot more smoke etc and the Outdoor BBQ units you see move 2000 m3 as they are designed for the BBQ's. The internal ones will not be able to do the job and they won't be covered under warranty. They managed to convince me as I bought one. I still have in the box the 900mm Franke Stainless Steel one I thought I was going to use before I was convinced. Slab Down: 2/6/11 Moved in 13/3/2012 Current Status : Waiting for the garden to grow.
