Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Jan 18, 2012 3:45 pm Hi All, Am moving to our new house this weekend and one of the first jobs is to build a deck over the existing ugly concrete front verandah. I guess my questions are: is this possible (most the decking posts here appear to be about decks built over natural ground etc), would it be very expensive, the verandah is at most 1.5m wide and about 10m long and how would I make sure there was no huge gap between 'step up' to the house and the deck, assuming you don't actually connect the deck to the house?. Any pointers would be most helpful. Cheers WK Re: Another decking question 2Jan 19, 2012 8:06 am there are lots of deck over concrete posts in the outdoor living section so the principal regardless of size is the same we are also looking at doing this. all the display homes do it nowadays and i was lucky enough to see a couple during construction at the dispaly village near our block. however this has made me a bit confused as well i seen 2 different ways the deck was fastend down. one was direct to the slab with dyna bolts and the other was beams screwed sideways onto the house wall and joist between them and decking on top. both had similar overall height - within 20mm or so which would be the better way to go MDJ Homes - Bordeaux 14 + now with improvements Hi, as per the subject. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best value decking oil (Bunning is close to where I live) for a treated pine deck?
