Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Aug 27, 2011 12:20 am Hi All, We've been working on a bench using decking timbers and had them out over our reconstituted limestone pavers. Unfortunately, it rained, and now the pavers are stained with tannin. Do you have any hints or tips on how to get the tannin out? Is it even possible? The pavers were sealed around 2 yrs ago, so I am hoping that this helps. The decking boards are Batu if that is any use. Thanks, Chris Re: Tannin stains on reconstituted limestone pavers 2Aug 28, 2011 6:18 am Try liquid chlorine diluted 1:10 with water, leave on for a few minutes and hose off Landscape Design & Construction http://cherub.squarespace.com/ Re: Tannin stains on reconstituted limestone pavers 3Sep 05, 2011 11:36 pm Household bleach also works, which would be similar to chlorine anyway. We happened to leave a few sample hardwood boards on an old concrete landing. When we finally went to move them, they had leached (probably the dew collecting overnight on them) and badly stained the concrete. The only thing we had was bleech. In panic, we saturated the stains and used rough scrub brushes and lots (and lots!) of work and we managed to hide the accident a bit, but no way we cleaned it completely. We rinsed it after the bleach really well with hose ... Oh, but the concrete came up really freshened up (very light) where we bleached it My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Tannin stains on reconstituted limestone pavers 5Sep 11, 2011 12:19 am Thanks for the replies. I have read that beach is an option, but better used as a last resort due to the fact it lightens the stains rather than removes them. I will give it a go with some soap and water etc first, and then try the bleach option if all else fails. Thanks for the suggestions. Re: Tannin stains on reconstituted limestone pavers 6Sep 11, 2011 9:40 am I tried some white king on my father in laws sandstone and it completely removed the stains. I tested a bit undiluted on a stone and left it overnight to see if any problems, and it looked fine, so I went ahead and used it and it pulled up all the stains that the press washer could not get out. I tried diluting and it still worked, but not as effectively, so play around until you get the right mix that works for you and doesn't do any damage my house blog: http://sugarloafdrivebuild.blogspot.com/ Re: Tannin stains on reconstituted limestone pavers 7Sep 22, 2011 3:23 pm Thanks. I didn't leave the boards there for too long once I saw the stains, and it seems as though just the recent rains have removed a fair bit of the stains. For the more stubborn ones, I might try some diluted bleach. Thanks again. Re: Tannin stains on reconstituted limestone pavers 8Sep 28, 2011 3:08 am Alkali chemicals are mostly safe, avoid acids and high nitrogen fertilizers. If you leave it be, natural sunlight will bleech the stains away. No chemicals, no risk. It just takes a few weeks. Hi everyone, Have just put a shower in the laundry and after only using it 2-3 times have noticed staining on the grout. The tiles were glued onto a concrete wall after… 0 5447 |
