Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Jul 13, 2011 8:46 am I saw this in a display and loved it! I asked the sales person but he was tight lipped about it. Any idea what company makes steel structures like this? Re: Steel structured outdoor area 2Jul 13, 2011 9:50 pm Where are you? Sometimes depending on where you are it can be an independent metal fabrication place that does all sorts of metal work that may have done this. If you find a good metal fabricator it will cost you a lot less than a metal design fabricator. Re: Steel structured outdoor area 3Jul 14, 2011 8:23 am I'm in Melbourne, South East area. I had previously contacted a company called Lump Studios that specialize in all sorts or custom metalwork. It was regarding a water feature at that time and got a quote for around 7K for a 2m x 40mm water feature. That was extremely excessive! So this time I thought I would go the manufactured route for this type of structure. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All new built homes look like display homes... until the furniture goes in. Re: Steel structured outdoor area 4Jul 14, 2011 7:56 pm I have seen Lump online too and other similar companies. Yes they charge a fortune. Do you think you could ring the place where you saw the initial structure to find out who made it? Worth a try. Another idea would be to find a small steel fabricator working out of a workshop/old shed-/someone who can weld and it will probably cost a lot less. I found it hard too. I still want my fence made in metal but it's going to cost a lot of money. We got our letterbox made and plantar boxes custom made too. Re: Steel structured outdoor area 5Jul 15, 2011 7:45 pm It looks like Lump made the outdoor structure as pictured. Re: Steel structured outdoor area 6Jul 16, 2011 8:22 am It already sounds expensive. Lump charges consultation and custom fees before the cost of the job is even considered ... that's steel for ya. This was from a M3tric@n display. Once he found that I wasn't interested in building one of his homes, he didn't want to talk about the outdoor area... or anything else for that matter. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All new built homes look like display homes... until the furniture goes in. Re: Steel structured outdoor area 7Jul 16, 2011 4:48 pm Get someone to go there or go into one of their offices and look interested in building with them http://www.metalguy.com.au/our_structures.html http://www.tpsteel.com.au/custom.htm http://www.rockmartin.com.au/contact.php http://www.anysteel.com.au/default.htm You might find some of these places helpful. If you can get someone to make something for you at a reasonable cost it will be worth it. Trouble is finding someone that does it that doesn't charge a fortune. Re: Steel structured outdoor area 8Jul 17, 2011 9:42 am Wow, thanks so much for the links Dollar. Will visit them with pics to get an estimate. It may well be a two part project, get the structure up by these guys then go to another co. to get the metal decorative inserts. Thanks for the help! __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All new built homes look like display homes... until the furniture goes in. Re: Steel structured outdoor area 9Jul 17, 2011 3:06 pm No worries. I know how hard it is to get this sort of work done. It was only by chance I found the person we got to do our planter boxes and that was through asking around at work. I'd be interested to see how you go. Re: Steel structured outdoor area 10Jul 21, 2011 2:47 pm Those are really nice! Have you tried contacting an engineering company? As in one that makes custom sheet metal products, they may be able to help. I reckon it will be costly though. Steel and labour prices are going up and up! Re: Steel structured outdoor area 11Aug 05, 2011 1:53 pm I saw a very similar pergola built at a M3tric@n display here in Brisbane too. My thoughts were - to design the panels in corel draw, have them laser cut and powder coated. Not sure if you've had much luck sourcing your panels - but I used a company called Bylaser in Brisbane to have some stainless steel cut in to shapes I needed. They're also in Dandenong - it might be a place to look too. Re: Steel structured outdoor area 12Aug 05, 2011 5:22 pm Skot do you have any photos you would like to share? Re: Steel structured outdoor area 13Aug 05, 2011 7:13 pm Ok, so here's what I have decided to do with this costly dilemma. I am getting quotes for a steel frame with a clear roof (polycarbonate). Then when that is done, I am going to a company like this http://www.gardensofsteel.com.au/Screens.htm to look at their screens. I may just need screens these screens on one side (decorative purpose only) as the two open ends will have pull-down mesh screens to combat the great fly invasion in summer. ... well at least that's the plan. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All new built homes look like display homes... until the furniture goes in. Re: Steel structured outdoor area 14Aug 05, 2011 7:30 pm I was just looking at these before you posted the link Starz. Certainly will look good. Re: Steel structured outdoor area 15Aug 09, 2011 10:57 pm Hey Starz, just wanting to know if there is any update on sourcing some quotes etc. I am currently pursuing quotes for a fence hence one reason why we have no side fences/gates at the moment. What I want is quote expensive so needing to come up with other alternatives that is half the cost which I will still be happy with. I have sourced a metal fabrication place who seem to be more than happy to meet and discuss what I want. They do all sorts of metal fabrication. Re: Steel structured outdoor area 16Aug 11, 2011 7:43 am Hi Dollar, Quotes came in at 25 -30K (with polycarb roof) I almost fell over (in the mud because of this crazy wet weather) and that doesn't include the screen insert, that's just the frame! Think I may need to plant a money tree. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All new built homes look like display homes... until the furniture goes in. Re: Steel structured outdoor area 17Aug 11, 2011 10:54 am Hi Starz & Dollar, Check out perftech.com.au - we use this company often for custom made screens for work. They are in Thomastown and basically have standard cutouts and they also custom cut screens. One tip, try to stay in standard sizes of whatever steel you are going to use, mild steel, stainless, copper etc as that will keep the cost down, most standard sheets are 2400 x 1200. Most of the metal art is pretty expensive though. Also Locker Group in Dandenong do laser cutting of metal - not sure what their minimums are though as they are industrial, and do it on specification. Try searching for Corten laser cut screens and you ahould come up with a range. Have you thought about getting the same affect by using timber panels or something like blueboard (I don't know how you would get the cut outs though - maybe router) and using the Porters rust effect paint? Re: Steel structured outdoor area 19Aug 11, 2011 9:09 pm WOW Starz that is ridiculous. Well I think you should get it! NOT! Not for that price. I took a trip to the local metal fabricators today with my original design for a fence. (Yes still contemplating the fence and alot has to do wit the initial price). The bloke was really helpful and it sounds promising (of course anything for a price). What I'll be looking at doing is getting metal sheets and structured pillars made and then rust them. The corten bumps the price up significantly and by doing it yourself can save you lots. Our letter box and plantar boxes were all custom made by people we found by "word of mouth". What you could do Starz is get the patio structure done in steel-powder coat them if you like and then get the panels cut yourself. I have found a few websites online and have so far got a few quotes for fences in the design I want at a reasonable cost. Not everyone's thing nor in everyone's budget. It's been >12mths and still no side fence/gates. Main reason being is that I'm not yet ready to give up on the design I want and continue to source within our budget and what I believe is reasonably priced. Entanglements will be really expensive. Most of those places are. Need to find little independent guys that know how to whack things together without the "designer/brand" attached to them. Ring-any photos? Re: Steel structured outdoor area 20Aug 12, 2011 7:38 am Dollar WOW Starz that is ridiculous. Well I think you should get it! NOT! Not for that price. What you could do Starz is get the patio structure done in steel-powder coat them if you like and then get the panels cut yourself. I have found a few websites online and have so far got a few quotes for fences in the design I want at a reasonable cost. Not everyone's thing nor in everyone's budget. That WAS for the steel powder coated structure Dollar. The reason for the MASSIVE price is the are it covers. We are going with a Danpalon clear roof which makes it quite costly. After the hail storm damage to the laserlite roof last year, there is no way I will consider a weaker roof. This product is more resistant to heavy hail and I can get it in a clear so it can let the light in. Its on the corner of the house (side and back) approx 52sqm....BIG = $$$$. Had two quotes so far. Surprisingly, fining it difficult to get people out on site when it rains, you would think companies would do just about anything to get a quote out there and get the business, but apparently they don't want to get wet Oh well, just helps me sifting though the 'good' from the 'i-dont-give-a damn', I suppose. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All new built homes look like display homes... until the furniture goes in.
