Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 May 22, 2011 10:38 pm This is my first post, so I hope I am in the right area. I am in the middle of building a large covered deck with 500lm of merbau timber. Ultimately I will be building in the deck to keep us warm in winter, but with heaps of glass louvres for the summer. We live in the Lockyer Valley in S.E. Qld. The wife wants to paint the deck with a blue paint that has been used on other decks around the house. She feels it preferable to keep to the same colour scheme and makes for ease of cleaning. I don't really care whether it is paint or stain. Decking paint does not last all that long from my experience. Hence the question for the forum. I was planning to use an oil-based primer, then a water-based undercoat before two top coats. Recently a chap told me that he used paving paint because it was longer lasting. If it lasts longer, the extra expense would be worth it considering the large area to be re-painted. I am 58 now, and don't look forward to too many repaint jobs. Has anyone gone in that direction? Regards Alan Re: Decking paint 2May 25, 2011 9:09 am I used a product called Spa & Deck for ours. It's made by a company called Flood. They give you I think 3 year guarantee. So far ours has been down for 2 years and it still looks great, it's just starting to fade a little on the area that gets the most sun. It's not cheap stuff though, 10 litre bucket cost me $200. As for the paint option, I have never heard of someone using paving paint for a deck but if your mate got a good result out it you could give it a go I guess. Maybe he has stumbled upon something the paint companies don't want us to know... A decking paint that last forever!!! Hi, as per the subject. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best value decking oil (Bunning is close to where I live) for a treated pine deck? Thanks 0 10971 Use a product like Equisol's Vitalise to clean the deck then coat with a penetrating timber oil. It will look 10 years younger and add value to your home.
