Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Nov 29, 2007 6:55 pm We are looking at putting down a deck soon, and have seen a in bunnings a couple of stain type products that colour treated pine to look like different timber - ie merbau etc. The samples they have there look pretty good! (perhaps too good to be true!) Is this something that actually works in real life.....or not?? (just would like to avoid using rainforest timber if possible).

As far as I know with the stains, they are pretty good. The trick is to buy a really good quality brand!!!!! And then possibly put a sealant over the top for protection. Luke will help you with that! But shop somewhere where the staff know what their talking about!!! Their other lines - Intergrain and Feast Watson are much better. I generally recommend Intergrain 'Naturalstain' for a water-based finish on treated pine, it comes in 6 different tints, easy to apply and clean up etc. For a mineral based finish I would probably recommend Sikkens Cetol Deck which is also available in about 6 tints - its exspensive but worth it. Re: Staining a treated pine deck..... 13Dec 04, 2007 6:56 am There are 2 main types of treated decking available - ACQ and LOSP decking. The ACQ looks very much like the old CCA decking with its 'US Army' olive green colour. The LOSP decking has near a natural pine colour as the treatment is colourless (some do put a dye in the treatment) The benefit IMO of the LOSP is that it will take a stained finish much better than the already dark green ACQ decking.
My 2 cents Re: Staining a treated pine deck..... 15Dec 04, 2007 8:19 am Yak_Chat Quote: Its ok....just saw the samples on the way through when buying a letterbox!!....and a sausage in bread... No that's a seriously inefficient diet. So now you've turned to a self righteous bunch of cows trying to send the knives the other way But hey - I'm swimming like hell avoiding those jap ships who are heading my way in the name of science Re: Staining a treated pine deck..... 17Dec 05, 2007 1:45 pm Maybe if you lost some weight you could swim away faster!!! Try cutting down on the krill!

You try swimming in these waters without a bit of blubber to keep you warm. Do you know the strory behind the cow and the dolphin of your avatar. The picture has 2 identical dolphins in it. It was used in a case study on stress level at St. Brenda's Hospital. Look at both dolphins jumping out of the water. The dolphins are identical. A closely monitored, scientific study of a large group of patients revealed that in spite of the fact that the dolphins are identical, a person under stress would find differences in the two dolphins. If there are many differences found between both dolphins, it means the person is experiencing a great amount of stress. Look at the photograph and if you find more than one or two differences, you may want a holiday. I think that makes the cow even more funny though! (If i find many differences between the dolphin and the cow what does that say about my mental state?) So where is St Brenda's hopsital?
