Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Mar 21, 2011 10:17 pm Hello, we are thinking of how close can the pool be to the outdoor living are, which will be outside our kitchen. We are considering the facts: - Does chlorium smell a lot especially in summer? - If is too close to the house maybe is very probably of splashing water on all furniture? - Does it have any implications of being next to the house for the walls? By the water that is evaporated? Thanks in advance everyone! Re: How close can a pool be to the house? 2Mar 27, 2011 6:43 pm Hi Fekish, When we told our builder we were looking to put a pool in, he told us that if we had a pool put in after the house was built and it was too close to the house, then the structural guarantee may be voided due to the earthworks involved. I would check with your builder before you make any concrete (pardon the pun!) decesions. We were lucky enough to have a larger block, so we put it in the back corner of the block - approx 2m away from the fence at the rear and side. It is still around 10m from the house, so the builder was ok with that. Just be careful not to have any of your windows opened, if you are worried about the furniture. I presume you mean the indoor furniture.... Chlorine will only really smell if you over chlorinate your pool. Keep to the measurments that your local pool shop will advise you, and you should be ok. Good luck. Basically my main concerns are whether there would be any smell from chlorine. And also if it is too close to any outdoor chairs that would get easily wet, when kids jump in the pool continiously! Re: How close can a pool be to the house? 4Mar 29, 2011 8:36 am Maybe get a saltwater pool - uses much less chlorine, has less odour and if any water is splashed onto the food it will just say you over seasoned with salt. Also consider a fibreglass pool as they require less chemicals to maintain. With regards to excavation check with builders but I as a general rule if your excavation depth is 2m you need at least 2m to the edge of the foundation, if you move within that 1:1 ratio you need to underpin (re-inforce) the foundation which is very expensive.
