Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Feb 23, 2011 7:24 am We are about to embark on building our singlle storey extension which includes a fairly large sized deck. What could i expect to pay per sq meter for a deck (inclu labour costs) based on the following information. Whilst ultimately a total cost (including labour costs) is what I'm after, I'd be interested to understand the breakup between materials and labour costs. I assume labour costs are based on time taken and the number of people required to build it (assuming a min of 2)? - size: 42sqm (10.45x3.00+3.10x1.3+1.50x4.30); - type: 135mmx19mm spotted gum decking; - stumps: concrete with ant caps - site: virtually flat/slight slope. - height: low to the ground. same height as floor level of house. Aware there needs to a min. 200mm from lowest timber member (bearer) to ground level. In fact may need to exgavate some parts in order to create min required clearance. other : no railing/balistrades required. One side 4.30m will be a 2 course brickwork where the inner course will be the ledge that the bearers rest on. Thanks in advance. Re: Cost of Deck in 20II 3Feb 23, 2011 2:46 pm Price varies greatly from contractor to contractor, there are a few posts on here that have a basic material cost break down. Remember, pay peanuts you get monkeys dont forget permit, plans for pemits and getting your BAL rating (bush fire assesment) Dependant on how close to the boundary you may also need a town planning permit ( council dependant) and you may also be required to get assest protection from council app cost. permit $550 plans $300-$500 bal assesment $165 - $250 Town planning permit $200-$500 assest protection $200-$300 + refundable deposit if no damage done pens to fill out forms $10,000...... Yes, we do have the plans and all permits inclu. town planning permits. Only reason I asked about the cost of materials and labour again is because the previous posts a little dated (i.e. dating back to Sep 2008) and not sure if costs have gone up substantially since then. I agree with with your comment "pay peanuts get monkeys" but given the sometimes huge variability" from contractor to contractor paying top dollar doesn't necessarily guarantee quality work either.
