Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Jan 11, 2011 6:24 pm Have been trolling around looking for insperation on what to do about installing a merbu screen for my side fence. Stumbled upon Kek's thread and really liked the look of a rendered finish in between two merbu screens. I have attached photos to show a slight dilemma we have. The thing im struggling with visually is whether it will look good. As you can see, since building our pergola we have now centered the Goddess water feature to the pergola and no longer to the decking. Mainly because it was sitting right where the pole went. This leaves us with a longer left side to screen than right. What should we do? My wife wants the screen to go all the way to the end of the garden bed on the left. So, the dimensions we have are 4.1m from edge of water feature to the left, 1.1m for the feature then 1.4m to the brick wall. 6.5m in total. How can we do this without having one large left hand side. We obviously want the Goddess head to be the feature and centered somehow? Help. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll311/xxjardinexx/Back%20Yard/IMG_4121.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll311/xxjardinexx/Back%20Yard/IMG_4122.jpg Re: Help with Screening dimensions. 2Jan 12, 2011 10:03 am I'm no expert on design, but as long as the rendered section of screen has the sculpture centred, I don't see why you can't just fill either side with timber - the fact that the timber sections would be different widths wouldn't bother me. Everything doesn't have to be symmetrical. You could maybe add a feature plant to the centre of the wider section - I don't think it would detract from your goddess. ![]() You might also be able to arrange your furniture on the deck so that the sculpture is "centred" to your seating arrangement, if you know what I mean. Perhaps post your question in the decorating forum - Michelle's good with this stuff; see what she thinks. ![]() We actually have two features - the urn/water feature in the centre and the Buddha head to the right. There's nothing on the left....I thought about adding something else, but decided it would be overkill. That side is partly hidden behind our bar anyway. I'll post some photos in a tick, to show you what I mean. Re: Help with Screening dimensions. 3Jan 12, 2011 10:14 am This is looking from the centre of the alfresco room, standing at the rear, and is the view from our lounge and also as you walk through the house from the front door to the kitchen/family room. As you can see, it isn't really centred: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ View from the front of the alfresco room - you can see Buddha on the right. He's quite visible through the bifold doors from our kitchen and dining area: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ You can see there's no feature on the left, but we have our bar over there, partially blocking the view from the dining room window: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The three screen sections are all equal length in this case, but the centre of the whole thing doesn't line up with the centre of the alfresco room and I think it looks fine. ![]() Re: Help with Screening dimensions. 4Jan 12, 2011 11:13 am The screening is a backdrop, ones eyes will be focused on your sculpture not the background. I think you will find that it will look great and no one would notice if things are not perfectly balanced. Well, it was the default we got with our deign, walking through the build last week felt ok, based on drawings on the floor, it is basically a metre, which is quite a big… 3 10402 Thanks for your reply! All valid points and I agree with you on many of them. I am in QLD, any recommendations on a construction lawyer would be helpful 3 12192 1 13537 |
