Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Nov 12, 2010 1:13 pm Hi Guys, just after some opinions and expertise from those in the know. I am in the process of having a deck manufactured. It is approx 92sqm and the frame is all steel. I have chosen spotted gum to deck it with for several reason and my issue ****** in the grade. We are in a bush setting with lots of various gum trees and palms and other species surrounding. Mainly sydney blue gums. I think that the deck would look really good in a feature grade as the variance in colour i think would really embrace the setting. (do i sound dehydrated lol) Everyone i have called for quotes is quoting on standard and better grade - is that above feature grade (i think it is but want to confirm hope i dont sound stupid?) Apart from the visual differences in the feature grades there are no structural differences are there??? thanks guys Re: Spotted Gum Decking 2Nov 15, 2010 7:56 pm Feature grade is basicly bottom of the barrel grade in decking, full of gum veins and natural faults ie: holesv good for stubbing your toes and getting splinters in your feet. Standard or better still has same colour as feature grade only basicly none to minimal gum vein and faults If you like spotted gum maybe also look at iron bark Da Vinci Outdoor Living Architectural landscaping http://www.davincioutdoor.com Re: Spotted Gum Decking 3Nov 16, 2010 9:53 am We had our flooring done with spotted gum and absolutely love the colour and are wanting to doa small deck in a courtyard to bring a little bit of the inside out (or is that outside in ). we are also going to have a section of screening in the same... so maybe you could have decking in standard grade and a screen made with the feature grade to get that rustic look your after without the toe stubbing Davinci is talking about. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best value decking oil (Bunning is close to where I live) for a treated pine deck? Thanks 0 13507 Use a product like Equisol's Vitalise to clean the deck then coat with a penetrating timber oil. It will look 10 years younger and add value to your home.
