Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Nov 13, 2010 4:57 pm Hi Guys I have got 30m2 of concrete patio. I want to lay timber decking on it ,anyone can give me some advice ..... How should i fix timber joists to concrete? What should be the gap between joists on the concrete? Should i rise joists off the concrete ?If yes how high and what to use under ? What screws are the best for decking? Should i use spacers between decking? I would be very thankfully for all advice tips etc Thanks Greg Brisbane Re: Decking over Concrete 2Nov 14, 2010 6:45 pm You can put plastic packers or wedges under the joists and fasten them to the concrete floor. I built a merbau deck over our concrete alfresco and followed the example in this link. One difference is that I used galvanised L brackets to fasten the joists instead of drilling through them. http://www.*.com/f196/deck-concrete-75479/ Re: Decking over Concrete 3Nov 15, 2010 10:36 am We just did this at the front (under our porch) and plan to lay concrete and do the same at the back. For the front we spaced the joists approx 450mm apart (we used 140x90mm treated pine). We dynabolted each end joist and 2 in-between (a length of 5m) and used liquidnails for the rest straight onto the concrete (you may also be able to use bondcrete or something similar). The decking went straight onto the joists and screwed into place (electric screwdriver and electric drill). We used the leftover treated pine decking we had used for our side slat fence, and because it is never 100% straight we didn't bother with spacing and just laid them as close as possible - however there are fine spacings naturally occurring and we preferred the look of having the boards as close as possible rather than spaced. If we had used merbau we would have put a 2mm spacing just to allow for water run-off. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The reason we are deliberately doing this at the back is because our council requires a permit for any decking that uses posts, bearers and joists (at $450 for the permit) however no permit is required for decking on top of concrete... laying the concrete is cheaper than the permit and we don't need to dig out post holes! Second Time 'Round Re: Decking over Concrete 5Jun 05, 2014 7:28 am In most cases even securing the deck to the concrete is not required, 30m2 will weigh a few hundred kilos when assembled. Hi, as per the subject. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best value decking oil (Bunning is close to where I live) for a treated pine deck? Thanks 0 10971 Much a do about nothing. You can see the fall heading to the actual drains. Stormwater ingress will be minimal and it's far better to have the top sitting flush rather… 12 6244 As most others have posted above the install isn't compliant. The pipe is meant to be covered in loose soil or sand, the pipe has holes in it that leaks out a termicide… 10 5727 |
