Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Oct 05, 2010 8:45 am Hi Everyone, Thought it would be a good if people could share their alfresco or outdoor entertaining area pics on here. In particular, where did you put your bbq? Is there anything you wish you could change now or wish you had done? I want to put a seated built in bench somewhere and I am trying to find some inspiration. Looking forward to seeing what you have all come up with! Magical! Can I ask - what are those side walls to stairs made of and finished with (on 2nd pic)? Are the rock-face walls real rock, or cladding, or something else? And did you have to waterproof the small planter box where the single agave is? What type of pavers are those and how wide do the grout joins have to be? Oh, and what is a good size for each step? I mean width of each tread and height of each riser. And ... why don't you put up more pics !! My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... What type of pavers are those and how wide do the grout joins have to be? Oh, and what is a good size for each step? I mean width of each tread and height of each riser. And ... why don't you put up more pics !! Walls are besser blocks core filled with concrete an steel, render was an acrylic product (mac render). Cladding is 50 mm thick sandstone, glued to walls with tile adhesive. All walls are waterproofed. Paver are SA product called Caststone (Concrete) 750 x 400 mm and 50 mm thick, laid on concrete base with a mortar bed. Grout is 10 mm wide, width really depends on personal choice and uniformity of paver itself. Think they are no longer around. Stairs are 180 risers and 300 going (tread), from the ratio below 2 x 180 + 300 = 360 mm gait pattern which is very comfortable to walk. BCA requirements are that dimensions of stair risers be between 115 - 190 mm and stair goings between 250 - 355 mm. The stair going to riser ratio (2R + G) within the range of 550 - 700 is a suitable gait pattern. Thanks, cherub. I was actually looking for a similar-look cladding, but could mainly find the sharp edged one (which I don't like). Saw something like yours in one shop, but they say it's an old display and they don't make this style any more. Could you tell me where/which web site can I find a cladding like that, or what is its brand name, or shop, or ... And with paving, you seem to recommend to always lay pavers on concrete, not on sand? And what is the minimum thickness of mortar/grout (both with pavers and with tiles)? Is the mortar/grout line always going to be narrower with tiles than with pavers? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Show us your alfresco! 8Nov 14, 2010 3:33 pm Gosford Quarries sell quality stone. http://www.gosfordquarries.com.au/rockfaced-cladding Yes concrete base is always the best option, cant have mortar joint on sand base. As i said width of joint is a personal thing, 10 mm would be my max with a large format paver, down to min of 3 mm Landscape Design & Construction http://cherub.squarespace.com/ Re: Show us your alfresco! 9Nov 14, 2010 5:09 pm cherub OMG! Drool ..... that is gorgeous. I just showed my other half and his jaw hit the floor, so you need to head up to Bundy around mid next year and help him replicate your bar at least. ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: Show us your alfresco! 11Nov 14, 2010 7:15 pm Not quite finished yet but here is ours. http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg89/leah6363/wall002.jpg BBQ at the end Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg89/leah6363/wall003.jpg www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Show us your alfresco! 13Nov 16, 2010 5:26 pm Amazing!!!!!!!!! Thankyou both so much for sharing your pics - they're awesome! [i][b]Krissy & Dave Re: Show us your alfresco! 14Nov 16, 2010 5:31 pm Loving these pics I'd share ours... but at the moment we have 25 stumps in the ground Bearers going on tonight, joists tomorrow, and decking boards by the weekend. Will post a pic then Re: Show us your alfresco! 16Jan 06, 2011 7:45 am We placed our BBQ and built-in seating outside the roofed alfresco room. Whilst it's a decent size, it isn't big enough for BBQ, dining setting, lounge furniture and bar. Unless we made everything really small. The "room" still isn't furnished - we need to find just the right lounge furniture. I hate most of the mass-produced stuff I can find, and anything I do like is way out of our budget, so I'm waiting and hoping eBay helps me out. So, this is our extended alfresco entertaining area: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The planters double as seating and work a treat when we have a crowd. We'll eventually build some sort of roof over the bar (we're thinking thatched balinese-style... ). Meanwhile, we just use a portable gazebo thingie if the weather looks iffy. The alfresco room becomes the dance floor for parties, and in winter or in bad weather, we move the table and chairs in there under cover. This is looking back towards the alfresco room. I improvised some furniture in there the day this photo was taken. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The BBQ is to the left of the dining setting. We originally had it in the alfresco room, but got sick of fat spattering on the pavers and smoke stains up the brick wall, so it's now out in the open.
