Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Sep 16, 2010 7:27 pm Hi Guys, I need your help Im having a fence erected and I need it to be decent hardwood for longevity, termite resistance and fire resistance. Its 75m long - 100mm x 200mm posts with 150mm x 38mm (or 25mm) top rail and im having trouble finding somewhere that has either turpentine or white mahogany posts/rails at a decent price in NSW central coast/sydney/hunter. Can anyone point me in the right direction please. Thank you Re: Post and Rail Fence 2Sep 20, 2010 3:00 pm I'm building a split log fence, have cut cypress pine and will use that for posts as well as split the big ones and run them between. Termites don't like it as it has a high resin content. In our case we really needed the extra strength from the hardwood as the horses can be a bit rough on the fences and we have a lot of falling branches. My MIL has pine (albeit quite small rails given the application) and she has had numerous breakages from the horses and branches. I know if the blue gums drop there big branches nothing under it will survive, but hopefully we dont have many probs. My husband said it had to be hardwood too, he just had a thing about it lol Electrical just got back to me and said the most they can provide is a single power point on the Bedroom 1 side of that wall.
