Generally the original timber or closest match must be used. Cypress or Tallowwood was very common on verandahs but it could be any number of things. That being said in the species you have listed the merbau and cypress are both durability 1 timbers so would be good, the belian and yellow stringybark are durability 2 and would also be fine.
