Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Jul 27, 2010 9:01 pm Does anyone know whether there are any solar garden lights that are actually worth buying? I'm told most are pretty dim, and also that you can't turn them on and off - they just come on at dusk and stay on. I'd be grateful for any advice. Re: Solar outdoor lights 2Aug 03, 2010 3:29 pm Hey Jassy, I have used a few different brand solar stuff over the last couple years from the crap Bunnings stuff up to the dearer Clipsal and HPM but overall found them all to be dissapointing. I have gone through and replaced them all with wired stuff after getting jack of replacing ones that stopped working or were alot dimmer than the others. I found too the garden lights would only stay ofn for 3-4 hours max after dusk. After using wired lights you will never look back. I too am constantly around friends places and seeing those solar jobs just sitting there like ornaments, not working at all. I'd like to go wired to. But to answer the question OP, I can't help. Let us know if you find some good ones. Re: Solar outdoor lights 4Aug 05, 2010 11:54 pm Yes not too many quality solar around. You can get some with a switch on the bottom, but they are dull and not really adequate for what you use them for. Get some good spot or bollard lights low voltage, put in some low watt globes in them and you will use less power with the same brightness as a 50w bulb and also be able to put more lights on one transformer. Just use good quality 12v cable and connectors so that once they are installed, you dont have to touch them. Ours work fine, they're just not bright enough to do anything more than outline the edge of a path or deck. Re: Solar outdoor lights 6Sep 04, 2010 8:56 pm Thanks everyone for your replies. I think you're right. There aren't any solar lights worth having except for guidelights. I'll be taking your advice and wiring in. Ilike the tip about the 50w globes - I'll try that. Thanks a lot.
