Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Jul 22, 2010 11:36 am We need to replace our rusting metal railing on our nearly 60yr old red brick veneer house in Epping Sydney on a concrete pebblecreted front deck which faces south. An amount of deck about 20x20cm piece has been exposed as being missing revealing a small amount of metal formwork near the garden. Do we need to have a remedial structural engineer check this out that it does or does not need to be repaired - the metal formwork exposed appears to be rusting. Where and how do I find a remedial structural engineer to do this type of inspection and who then would we get to fix this - a normal concretor? Do we not worry about it and have the metal railings cut off at deck level and replaced with new holes being drilled and just concrete and tile over this area? What type of metal railing does not rust forever - only aluminium? Also do we tile first or do we replace the railing first? The railing does get rained upon. Can someone give me some suggestions of how we approach our problem. Can anyone suggest people to supply & fit a non rusting railing and deal with this small concrete problem. Debrak Re: METAL RAILING REPLACEMENT FOR CONCRETE DECK 2Jul 22, 2010 8:18 pm G'day debrac Well good question for a first time poster and welcome. The area of damaged concrete should be inspected by a credible concrete repairer. Decide on a repair method and go from there. If the railing is rusting then it would likely have 'grown' in diameter and having an outward prssure on the concrete. So it does need to be dealt with. Have you got any photos? we love photos Put some 'scale' to the photo a coin or a tape measure could be good. Onc Where you are coming from is where you are going to... You are fine. The concrete is never going to explode. Worse case scenario is that it develops a crack from different rates of expansion but hopefully it's got some… 5 4509 Last year I had a gas leak at my house. 3 days later, I have about 1 sqm of my exposed aggregate paving broken up. I am not sure how to go about getting it repaired… 0 8111 Fine with me... just let 'em step in with some affordable (but good) gear... 12 4275 |
