Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Jun 01, 2010 9:10 am Hubby is going to finish the Colourbond Fence Panel this coming weekend. We had some left over sheets from our shed build, so we are using it for the Fence. As you can see it will only stand for the purpose of a privacy screen. It is not that we do not get on with our neighbour or anything, i just want the privacy for when we are out in the SPA. Our neighbour is out on his pergola everyday drinking with his mates ( he is retired and on his own, so it is party time at his house everyday and i am not joking) and i just do not want to feel that i can not go out and get in my SPA. The photos below show the area that we need to do something with, it will not have a roof over it at this stage and may never, so i need something that will last in the weather. I thought the easiest way to go would be to put some pavers in. Not to cover the whole area but to create a path to a larger square feature area where i will place a small table and chairs or a couple of sun lounges and then to have large pots/plants and some metal outdoor art or something for a feature against the fence. Then finish the rest of it off with River Pebbles and some Mondo Grass. But i also like the idea of having a step up deck in the area for something different, which would compliment the SPA at the other end of the pergola. But my worries with that is the wood being so close to the house and Whiteants and the wood having to be replaced all too often and stained all of the time. Please give me your ideas. The area is about 4.8m long x 2.5m wide, so how much would it cost to build a deck of that size and would my hubby be able to do it? ( He is not really into building and that, so is there an easy cheap way to do it?) Thanks in advance for all of your help as i am sure i will get a few responses. Any ideas appreciated. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x185/kimt05/005-2.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x185/kimt05/004-4.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x185/kimt05/001-2.jpg Oh and that ugly bamboo screen will be gone on the weekend too. Re: What Would You Do With This Space??? Pave or Deck Need I 2Jun 01, 2010 9:46 am I'm no green thumb but why don't you start by putting a row of quick growing 'high' shrubs or trees either in pots or in the ground along the adjoining fence line for starters That would look nice & hide his fence at it seems to have 'see thru' palings Your own ideas sound good - but the trees could give you the extra privacy & would look nice along that fenceline. Jazz Life is like a lolly, suck it and see Re: What Would You Do With This Space??? Pave or Deck Need I 3Jun 04, 2010 5:00 am Definitely need some fast growing trees or climbers to create a privacy barrier bothways. My first thought was bamboo, there are non invasive types you can grow and then some tropical palms or fruit trees in front. another tree is the pittosporin tenuifolium or simular to create a thick geen hedge, easily trimmed to keep tidy. The climber Cape Honeysuckle looks nice too , but you may not get the thickness at the bottom. The cheapest way is to get an some bamboo style close set blinds off ebay and staple them onto the fence with some heavy duty staples. They can be put up quickly when your neighbour is off at the bottle store, and will last until the plants catch up This is the current bathroom with a european laundry. Overall internal dimensions are 3.69 wide and 3.65m deep, including the footprint of the laundry. There is a toilet… 0 11026 I've just built 3 stairs off a landing out the back and been told by the private certifier I need hand rails sorry tried to attach a pic but couldn't mine don't have sides… 5 5797 You can wash over existing pavers with 10% solution of water and hydrochloric acid, then wash off. The acid will provide for required bond key with new concrete. 1 37024 |
