Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Oct 02, 2007 10:45 pm I am currently building a Post and two rail fence with black PVC wire fence for our acreage block. We are not very handy people but did our homework and with help from our friends we have started, something i thought woulod never happen. Well after one weekend we have the 9 corner posts which we dug by hand with a post hole digger marked up the other 65 holes to be done during the week by a bobcat and this weekend we will be concreting the 65 in. I will put of some pictures.
Does anyone know what we can oil the posts and rails with (CCA treated Hardwood)? Re: Building a fence out of hardwood 2Oct 15, 2007 6:08 pm i use old engine oil on the wood carving i do in h/wood stops rot etc

I'm sure there are other oxides available for other colours. My inlaws used that & the fence lasted about 30 years!!! Re: Building a fence out of hardwood 4Oct 15, 2007 7:33 pm the joinery we bought our windows from suggested we pre-treat our timber windows with a couple of coats of linseed oil before they go into the brickwork (after which i presume we varnish them or something ). not sure if this is for early waterproofing etc. not sure if it would be appropriate for a fence though!?
Helen Re: Building a fence out of hardwood 5Oct 15, 2007 7:38 pm CCA shouldn't need anything. Thats why the go to all the trouble of doing it.
I've had farms and the CCA posts last years. I saw another post here (no pun intended) mentioning to NOT concrete the bottom of the post - put in some aggregate and then concrete around it. Make sure you have some good bracing on the corner posts to stop them bending when you tension the wirte up and here's a tip - buy a wire striner and the little bit of steel witha hole in that helps you wrap the wire around at the ends. And buy some nice leather gloves - saves the hands after a good days fencing Enjoy. I used to maintain my 30 acres on weekends with lots of big four legged flighty things damaging them all the time Steve See Solid Thinkings post below - Jeeze how do I stop that pun getting in there http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?p=12349 Hi All.
