Browse Forums Outdoor Living 1 Apr 22, 2010 12:16 pm Hi All, I have a new spotted gum deck that we stained initially about 12 months ago. This 'glossed' up nicely and had a nice rich color. After a bit of weathering, I put another coat of stain on it about 6 months later. However this coat seems to have not worked so well - the coloring is kind of sandy, grey and kind of look s dirty. I would expect that the deck not loose this much color and gloss so quickly. Would my problem be that I didnt clean the deck first? Can anyone give me some pointers as to how I can get the deck looking 'newish' again? Our spotted gum deck was built in Feb 09 and we used Intergrain's products - Ultradeckis awesome! We did use Reviva (a deck cleaning product) before applying the oil. We got almost 12 months out of the initial application before we had to re-apply. There furniture oil is fabulous too and we're about to do our timber windows with Nature's Timber Oil this weekend. Re: Spotted Gum Deck staining 4Apr 22, 2010 9:38 pm Honestly, I think Cabots is very ordinary. We used their products for years but have been totally won over by Intergrain. Beautiful finish, long lasting, easy to use. I should be on commission.
