To stain or oil your merbau will need to remove the tanin in the timber. In order to do this cheaply go down to coles and buy the homebrand napisan. Put some in a bucket of water and use a hard bristled brush and give it a good scrub. Leave it for about 5 mins, and then hose off with a pressure washer or just a hose. You will see how much colour comes out and your deck will be very pale and grey. Let it dry and then hit it with a few coats of oil. use a sheep skin cloth applicator. Be very generous with the oil as removing the tanin will make the timber nice and dry and will soak up the oil well which will protect for a long time to come. I personally like using Feast and Watson. One of the best on the market but its not cheap. Cheers +1.. have used napisan many times int he past... works well! from memory, the active ingredient is oxalic acid .. the same ingredient is used in "Reviva", but is 1/4 of the price (in coles napisan brand) Hey, I am wanting to add a second toilet to my house, bit we have limited room.
