Depending on the soil and how much soil it is retaining, the posts will have to be deeper than 400mm to get an adequate footing. If it's retaining heavy clay that is fill material an engineer may specify you to go half in/half out, so 1.2m down. Generally I would say 800-900mm would be ok in most instances, but if you are getting a permit for it the engineer will specify. I need to do one that is 600ml at its highest point. I was planning to go 600ml deep for the footings, I presume thats ok? I would say that the post the same mm below ground as above ground will be ok. Just make sure you have an adequate concrete footing to hold the post into undisturbed soil (go deeper if in fill) and make sure you have drainage and aggregate behind the wall to eliminate wet soil pushing against the wall Cool, many thanks for the handy tips Blog: http://funmore-residence.blogspot.com/ Forum: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=21109 Construction Start - 19/09/09 Slab Poured - 21/10/09 Frame Completed - 25/11/09 Lockup - 22/12/09 Fixing - 22/02/10 Handover & Moved In 30/04/2010 looks ok to me, round logs retaining walls are better than sleeper walls, more even preservative treatment and stronger since they include the whole tree and not just part… 1 2609 Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that. Have a good day 4 5435 Thanks for the insights, that makes perfect sense, and yeah, I will be leaning on the experience of the excavator operator entirely. 6 16246 |
